#MeetandGreetMonday with S.J. Maylee #BDSM #Erotic @Evernightpub @SJMaylee

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!
With us today is Romance Author, S.J. Maylee.

Welcome, S.J.!

So confession time, S.J. … your daily routine is really eating bon-bons, drinking wine and being pampered with cabana boys rubbing your shoulders right? I’m sure of it, but go ahead and tell us … what is a typical day in the life of S.J. Maylee like?
Give me a minute. You’ve given me a lovely day dream, lol. I’m simply a work from home mom. For the most part, my day starts between 6 and 7am. On good days, I workout before I have breakfast. Once my boys settle into an activity, I sit at my dining room table, check into social media, set-up a blog post if needed, and open the work in progress. I try and get a sold hour of writing/editing in before the evil day job butts in. From that point until the end of the day, I get back to my WIP as often as I can. At the end of the day, I usually make time to read for fun. I have to mix in a lot of mom and wife responsibilities too. My days move crazy fast.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words –
Romance … A must have
Spring Break … Shameless fun
Margaritas … Yum
Alpha Males … Double Yum!
Game of Thrones … Gross, but I can’t not watch

What is your favorite junk food?
Chips and dip. I could eat the whole bag and I might even lick the tub once it’s empty, which is why I rarely buy them.

What do you like to do for fun and relax?
The best way for me to relax is to sit in a cozy chair with a cup of coffee and a book. Bliss. I also enjoy time in my garden. I like to compare weeding to editing, lol. Both kind of suck and they’re both worth it. Gardening is also a place I can relax into my thoughts and work out plot problems.

What is your guiltiest pleasure? (examples: annoying song, a tv show, candy, soak in hot bath for hours)
80s movies. Of course I love Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, but I also love Working Girl, Baby Boom, and most importantly Steel Magnolias.
We’ll sell t-shirts sayin’ “I SLAPPED OUISER BOUDREAUX!” <- I want that t-shirt. 🙂

Flannel jammies or silk?
Both! Not at the same time, lol. Silk for sleeping and flannel for when I’m reading with my cup of coffee.

Wine or something stronger?
I so enjoy wine. It’s soothing. I also enjoy a good beer.

If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
I’d probably make my homemade spaghetti and meatballs. Mangia! Mangia!

Who is your male celebrity crush?
Daniel Craig is so dreamy.

Who is your female celebrity crush?
I adore Natalie Portman.

Where have you traveled that you’d love to return? What made it so special the first time?
Italy. My husband and I spent about a week there before we had our boys, such an amazing experience. However, we didn’t get down to Calabria where I have family. I’d love to go back and meet them. I’ve heard my great aunt’s cooking is phenomenal.

What three words best describe you?
My first thoughts were passionate, introverted, and loyal.

Paranormal or Sci-Fi preference?
Both please. I actually have WIPs in both genres. Many of my early childhood movie watching memories involve the original Star Wars trilogy and I still enjoy reading from that series and many others in both genres.

What was the last book you read that completely wow’d you and knocked your socks off?
Cara Bristol’s Breeder series. So good. I can’t wait for the last book in the series. She’s talked recently about plans for a new series set in the same world. I can’t wait for that either.

If you had the chance to meet one author – past or present – who would it be? Why?
Cherise Sinclair. I’m obsessed with her books. I’d love to sit and chat with her about her characters and then talk her ear off about her writing process.

Did you always want to be an author?
No, actually. Well, I’ve always wanted to make up stories, but I never thought I should write them down. That’s something my brother did. When I caught the bug to write a few years ago, it was like the world shifted into place and I could see my whole life clearly.

If you weren’t writing, what other career choice would you have pursued?
In my evil day job, I’m a Project Manager, but that simply pays the bills. I’d drop it in a heartbeat if I could. I’ve studied dance all my life and even danced on scholarship with a Chicago Dance company. My knees had other plans though. I’ve since found Nia. It draws from martial arts, dance arts, and the healing arts. Its theme is dancing in your body’s way. Similar to aerobics, it’s choreographed movement and it’s quite the workout. I earned my white belt a few years ago which allows me to teach Nia. I love it.

Writing can be a crazy business. How do you stay positive within the craziness?
It is crazy and terribly lonely sometimes. In that loneliness, my insecurities tend to grow. My writer friends help a lot, but I have to force out the negative noise and get back to my characters. It’s with them that I remember why I do it.

No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
Music provides me with lots of inspiration. I’m always listening for that one lyric that can inspire a whole book. Plus, it can help me reconnect with a character. I sit back in my chair, close my eyes, and let the music take over. Once I let go, I can usually start seeing things from my character’s perspective and then my fingers fly over the keys.

__________

I adore the development of a story. Following people while they fall in love is a fascinating experience. Seeing a character change over time is kind of an obsession of mine.taking-courage400x267

Simon Young, the hero from my new release, TAKING COURAGE, is a loyal man who enjoys helping others to find their way. So, you’d think he’d be over the moon when I put Janna Hall in his path. She’s a new submissive in need of his guiding hand. He was extremely pleased, at first.

When Janna forgets to tell him one pretty dang important thing, it hits Simon in a spot where he’s still healing. I know I’m an evil author. However, this was my way to see what they were both made of.

Lucky for Simon, Janna doesn’t remain crumpled from his stern reprimand. She finds the courage to go after what she wants. What happens next tests Simon and pushes him to find the courage to not only see Janna for the whole person she is, but also to forgive her mistake and open his heart to love.

TAKING COURAGE is a story of temptation, discipline, courage, and releasing your inner demons so you can let love in.

Simon Young is one hot hero and I hope you’ll fall in love with him too.

__________

TAKING COURAGE BLURB:

Janna’s ready to make over her life and get out from under the controlling thumb of her father. She doesn’t want another failed arranged marriage. She’s ready to do whatever it takes for the career she wants, enter the lifestyle she craves, and to earn the trust and love of the man that has captured her heart, but heartbreak and career hiccups seem to be her destiny.

Simon’s still recovering after his last submissive lied her way into his life. He’s not ready for Janna and how she pushes against his prejudices. He needs to decide if he’s willing to lose her or if he’ll fight for her love and submission.

#MeetandGreetMonday with Missy Jane #GargoyleMasters #Fantasy

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Romance Author, Missy Jane.

Welcome, Missy!

What goals have you set for your writing this year?
Well, I have quite a few works in progress to finish, most especially sequels to my archangel book and gargoyle book. Both of those were just released this year and I’m hoping to have the sequels out next year.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Wolverine Hugh Jackman
Romeo & JulietShakespeare
Candlelightdinner
Dean Winchester hot
Shapeshifterswerewolves

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where do you live, do you have a significant other, any young ones running around?
I live just north of Houston with my husband of 18 years and our four daughters. They aren’t exactly little though. I have three teenagers and a ten year old. 😉

Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
My big break came in 2008 when I submitted my shapeshifter book to Samhain Publishing. I had taken a Beginning Writers course with Judi McCoy and she gave me a very encouraging critique. When I was offered my first contract on They Call Me Death, I danced around the house with my daughters.

Did you always want to be an author?
I’ve always loved reading and enjoyed writing, but photography was really my first love. I wanted to be a freelancer photographer.

Name one quirk you have.
This one’s kind of funny: no matter how messy and disorganized my desk is at home, my desk at work is impeccable. Everything in its place every day.

What is your favorite junk food?
Anything chocolate. I’m a huge chocoholic.

What is your favorite meal that you wish you could eat at least three times a week?
Spaghetti marinara with mushrooms. Mmmm.

What do you like to do for fun and relax?
Read, of course!

What are you a collector of?
Books, shot glasses, wall masks, and anything to do with clowns (including marionettes and harlequins).

What five items do you take everywhere with you – besides cell phone, keys and purse/wallet?
Does each of my daughters count? Lol. Probably: camera, pills, wedding ring, calendar, and checkbook.

If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
Chicken fajita tacos or chili if it’s cold.

No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
My characters. Each one of them is unique and they each draw me into their worlds in different ways.

What book – print or e-book – is sitting on top of your to be read pile that you are eager to read?
Scarlet Devices by Delphine Dryden.

What three words best describe you?
Mom, Wife, Writer

If you were given an all-expense paid, five day/night trip to anywhere, where would you go?
Ireland.

What is your one pet peeve about the writing business?
Pirates.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
There are A LOT! Sherrilyn Kenyon, Alyssa Day, Kerrelyn Sparks, Jodi Thomas, Lynsay Sands, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Clive Barker, John Steinbeck and Shakespeare.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Henry Rollins, J. J. Watt, and Tom Hiddleston.

Who/What are you currently reading?
I just finished rereading Sherrilyn Kenyon and will probably continue rereading her Dark Hunters until I catch up to the newest release.

What do you find most challenging about writing?
Staying focused on one project at a time. I often have many characters vying for my attention.

Choosing a Title & Cover Isn’t Always Easy

Titles and covers are two things many authors have absolutely no control over. Which is a shame since those are the very first things a person looks at when picking up a book. Of course, publishers know this and do all they can to make both the title and cover unique and eye-catching. Unfortunately there are often repeats of titles across genres, and stock images on covers can make them similar to many others. I’ve had at least one book featuring a couple who are on, to this date, six other books that I’ve seen. It’s not a happy feeling. However, I will admit I’m usually forewarned about both title and cover well in advance of the book release date.

Born of Stone is a title that popped into my head while finishing up a work in progress about gargoyles. I did a quick internet search and didn’t find the exact same title on any other romance book, so I kept it. Often when I make up titles, the right one hits me and just fits. This is one I really liked. Now I’m working on more titles for this series.

As for the cover, I went through the usual process of filling out a questionnaire from Samhain’s art department about the plot and characters. They created the cover and sent it to me for approval. It was almost exactly as you see it here today, with one exception. The shoulder pads were missing. My first impression was the guy didn’t look big enough to be a gargoyle. So, they beefed up his shoulders. I’ve had a few people say it reminds them of the game Assassin’s Creed. I love it. I think the colors and the image itself are a very good representation of my hero Orestes.

Blurb:

BornOfStone72lgWithin a body strong as stone beats a heart ready for love.

For seventy years, Orestes and his eleven gargoyle brothers have done their duty to protect King Kadmos’ realm. There’s only one annoyance in his life—humans.

He’s content to leave them to their idol worship. Until he notices a small, frail woman serving at his table, doing her best to remain invisible. Something about her calls to him like no human before.

Astrid is terrified. Not of the powerful magical creature with kind eyes, but of the staff overseer’s lash for calling attention to herself. Instead she finds herself whisked away to paradise, where she is bathed, fed, and made love to by Orestes as if she is his reason to live. But she isn’t naïve enough to believe she is anything more than a temporary diversion.

When Orestes is called away to search for a missing brother, Astrid is kidnapped by traitors intent on using her to bend Orestes to their will. Little do they know that the connection between them is no weakness, but a strength their enemies would be fools to underestimate…

Warning: This book contains paranormal fighting, steamy sex scenes, strong-willed females, and men made of stone who prove to be soft as butter in the right hands.

Ms. Missy Jane is the alter ego of a married mother of four who was born and raised in New meTexas. A few years ago she finished reading a book by Mercedes Lackey and thought “Now, what if…” and a monster was created. Missy now spends most of her time lost in worlds of her own making, alternately loving and hating such creatures as vampires, shape-shifters and gargoyles (to name a few). When not writing, she spends her time reading, taking photos of her beautiful daughters and training her husband to believe she’s always right.

#MeetandGreetMonday with Lexi Post #EllorasCave #Twilight #SleepyHollow

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Romance Author, Lexi Post.

Welcome, Lexi!

Did you make any resolutions for 2014?
Not really. I set goals for the year in two areas, my writing and my finances. I figure it’s a bit hard to get where I’m going if I’m not sure of the destination. So I brainstorm realistic goals over the holidays like, write two books to start off two series, or attend the Romantic Times convention.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Romance … love, I was born romantic :-}
Keith Urban … sexy
Vacation … St. Martin beach
Dean Winchester … ??
Wolverine … Had a crush on him in the comic since a teenager and the in-person version is smoking hot!!

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where do you live, do you have a significant other, any young Posts running around?
I live in the US Virgin Islands, home of beautiful sunsets, happy people, and driving on the left. My family here includes my retired fireman husband and my 14lb angora tuxedo cat, Giz.

Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
I have a few people to thank for my first contract. Of course my husband, who believes I can do anything, and my hardworking critique partner, Marie Patrick. But the keys to the actual “break” were Jennifer Ashley and Brenda Novak. Jennifer Ashley told me a few years ago that she saw many writers who wanted to be published, but she knew I would make it. That was huge coming from her, and as rejections rolled in, I would either use her words to bolster my confidence or I would use them to fuel my determination to prove her right. The second person was Brenda Novak and her auction. After three years of strange occurrences with my wins that were beyond Brenda’s control, it was no surprise that she knew who I was. So when I won a bid to have dinner with Raelene Gorlinsky and an editor from Ellora’s Cave, Brenda went out of her way to make sure we connected. At that dinner I met my future editor and the rest is history. As for celebrating, let’s just say that it was a rather intimate affair 😉

Did you always want to be an author?
No. Oh, I made stories up all the time. Even told them to my younger siblings before they went to bed at night, but my hand writing was so atrocious that just the idea of writing them down had me cringing. It wasn’t until I became proficient on computers and started wishing romance stories I read had gone a different way, that I decided to try writing. Unfortunately, I had been an English major in school, and I had been trained to criticize stories, not create them. It took a while to learn a whole new craft. Now I use that background to write erotic romances inspired by the classics.

What is your favorite junk food?
Ice cream (my homemade or Ben and Jerry’s).

What are you a collector of?
Hats. I wear them every day and buy one or two every time I travel, usually cowboy hats, gangster hats, or fedoras in every possible color and color combination. I stopped counting after 80 :-}

What five items do you take everywhere with you – besides cell phone, keys and purse/wallet?
Well, I don’t even own a purse, so it’s all about what fits in my pockets. That limits it to blistex, ibuprofen (just in case) and sometimes I’ll carry a sweater or jacket because I’m always cold. In our vehicle I do keep a copy of my latest book in case someone wants to buy it. Sold a lot more than I ever expected because I had one with me *g* That reminds me, the lady at the post office wants one.

What is your favorite TV Show?
Oh, so not fair. I rarely watch TV so the three shows I do watch I really enjoy. I watch Castle, Agents of Shield, and Sleepy Hollow. Please don’t ask me to pick.

No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
That’s too easy for me. I am inspired by classic literature. I read the original and a whole new story starts forming in my head. Or should I say a whole new, very hot, sexy story forms. For example, Masque was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death.” When I reread that story and saw the potential of the seven colored rooms to be seven Pleasure Rooms with a different sexual experience in each, I knew I had use it.

What three words best describe you?
Positive, Colorful, Happy.

What three words would your family use to describe you?
Confident, Eccentric, Adventurous.

Where have you traveled that you’d love to return? What made it so special the first time?
Scotland, though I have returned many times. I am in love with the country’s beauty, people and history. I also fell in love with my husband in Scotland who actually lived only 5 minutes down the road from me back in America J I am also addicted to Scottish Medieval castles.

If you were given an all-expense paid, five day/night trip to anywhere, where would you go?
St. Martin. Five days is too short a time for Scotland, but St. Martin is close by and it is the only place besides Scotland that my husband and I return to for vacations.

What is your one pet peeve about the writing business?
I’m not sure that I have one. Something that is an inconvenience would be that every publisher has to have their own style sheet. That can make having multiple publishers a bit of a task.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
All my writing friends are my favorites. Romance authors are so awesome! I have friends all over the country now and many who have come to visit me. So I buy all their books.

Who is your celebrity crush?
I’m very picky when it comes to that. If a male celebrity has stayed with his wife then that brings him to the top of my list, so men like the late Patrick Swayze, Kevin Sorbo, Sam Eliot and Hugh Jackman are definite heartthrobs for me.

Who/What are you currently reading?
For a romance, I just finished reading Feral Heat by Jennifer Ashley. I’m currently reading a 700 page classic story, but I can’t tell which one as that will be the surprise when I announce the series *g*

What do you find most challenging about writing?
Sitting for long hours. I have a tendency to get into my story and I forget to move anything but my fingers. I get very stiff. I lift weights to keep the metabolism going and to strengthen my muscles. I used to be a ballet dancer so I’m starting to incorporate some exercise to keep my flexibility as well. I think I’m going to start using the timer on my phone to make myself get up more often.

The Many Faces of Sleepy Hollow

When I first decided to write an erotic romance inspired by Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” there was no television show by that name and I had not seen Lexi Post photothe Johnny Dep movie nor any of the cartoon versions that I have since been made aware of. I blissfully reread the original short story and my erotic romance started popping. Luckily, I finished it before the television show started as I didn’t want to be influenced by it in any way. Imagine my surprise when the television show made my hero the villain in their version!

Surprised by this turn of events, I decided to watch the Johnny Dep movie, but that interpretation was different from both mine and the television show. Granted I stayed the closest to the original story and mine is 100% sexier than the other versions; however, I have to say I have really enjoyed the television show. It is going in a completely different direction than my story did, but I have enjoyed it for itself, and of course, the eye candy 😉

Luckily, no one has to read the original story before reading my version, and if a reader is curious, I do summarize the story in a paragraph in the author’s note, but that just adds another level to the happier ever after. And yes, there is a happily ever after, in this case with mirrors. I may write erotic, but as one industry professional told me, I write erotic romance “with a whole lotta story”. Enjoy.

Always, Lexi

#MeetandGreetMonday with Shelley Munro #SamhainPublishing #Historical #Romance

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Romance Author, Shelley Munro.

Welcome, Shelley!

Describe a typical day in the life of Shelley Munro.
Greetings from New Zealand, and thanks for having me to visit today. When I first started writing full time, I decided to treat writing as a job. My writing day starts by at least nine and I write during the mornings. The afternoon and evening is for editing, promo and for taking care of the business side of writing. I usually fit a bike ride and a walk with the puppy into my day as well to combat the bottom spread that comes from sitting around for too long.

Even though I’m essentially “the boss” I tend to work longer hours than I ever did while working in an office.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Romance … Husband
Baseball … American
Vacation … Cruise
Vin Diesel … Movies
Rubix Cube… Vibrant color

What is your favorite word in the English Dictionary?
At the moment it’s cantankerous. I like the way it sounds on the tongue. Shenanigans comes a close second.

What is the most devilish thing you’ve ever done? (ie: maybe a prank pulled on someone)
I’m not big on pranks. It’s not that I don’t have a sense of humor because I do. It’s more that I don’t get a chance since my husband is the prankster in this family. He always seems to be one step ahead of me!

What is your favorite junk food?
For me it’s sushi. It’s my favorite. Not really junk food but we don’t do takeaway or fast food. We like to cook and hubby and I discuss our days while making dinner together.

Preference – Sam or Dean Winchester? If you haven’t seen Supernatural (and why not! It’s MY Fave show LOL), then would you prefer Iron Man or Wolverine?
I have to be honest and say I haven’t watched Supernatural for a while, but I’m on team Dean. *g*

What do you like to do for fun and relax?
I like cycling and walking the dog, reading, cooking and travel. Hubby and I try and get away and explore the rest of the world as often as time and money allow.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Let’s see – how about Alex O’Loughlin from Hawaii Five 0.

What three words would your family use to describe you?
Determined. Optimistic. Easy-going.

If you were given an all-expense paid, five day/night trip to anywhere, where would you go?
I’d fly down to the South Island of New Zealand and spend time in Queenstown and the surrounding area. It’s so pretty and yet it is not overcrowded with people.

What song are you most sick of hearing right now?
I haven’t spent much time listening to the radio or to music recently, since I’ve been on an audio book kick, but Lorde’s Royals has been thrashed to death on the radio down here.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
So many! I like Nalini Singh, Jeaniene Frost, Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb, Lorelei James, Jennifer Ashley, Jess Michaels just to mention a few. I read a lot and read widely across lots of genres.

If you had the chance to meet one author – past or present – who would it be? Why?
I’d like to meet Agatha Christie. I grew up reading her mysteries and would love to learn about her writing process.

Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
My first sale was an e-book. My husband believed in me from the start, and he’s still my biggest champion. My first contract came via email. I shrieked at the top of my voice and my husband and our dog came running to see what was wrong. I was almost incoherent, but finally communicated I’d sold my first book. We celebrated with a bottle of nice wine with dinner.

Writing can be a crazy business. How do you stay positive within the craziness?
I try to balance work and rest, make sure I eat properly and exercise. If I do this I’m much better prepared to handle anything that’s chucked in my direction. If I don’t do some sort of exercise each day, I tend to get fidgety and very grouchy.

What is your one pet peeve about the writing business?
Everything seems to move at the speed of a snail. Thank goodness for self-publishing where I can go at my own pace.

Blog Post:

In my recent release, Mistress of Merrivale, my hero and heroine have an arranged marriage.
They come to their marriage with different expectations. Jocelyn, my heroine, wants security and a home for both her and her eccentric mother. Leo, my hero, wants a wife to replace his first one and to make his life more comfortable. His first marriage wasn’t successful, and above all, Leo desires peace and a biddable wife.
Leo journeys to London to stay with his cousin the Earl of Melburn. This is the letter I imagine Leo wrote to his cousin before arriving to begin his search for a wife.

Dear Melburn,
After much soul-searching, I’ve come to the decision I need to remarry and the sooner the better. To that end, I will arrive in London in two weeks to begin my search for a wife. If you have any suggestions as to suitable women, I’d appreciate your input.

Any candidate should possess intelligence and loyalty. I have no preference regarding appearance but do require the following qualities. She must be trustworthy and discreet. She must like children and be happy to live at Merrivale in Dartmoor rather than spend the season in London. I want a biddable wife.

I look forward to seeing you again and wish you happy on the occasion of your betrothal to the Neville girl.

Fond regards,
Your cousin, Leo.

On arrival in London, Leo meets Jocelyn, and they decide a marriage of convenience will suit their needs. Both Leo and Jocelyn have their reasons for agreeing to the marriage, but it is only after they’re married that they come to learn the full truth and must face the monsters hovering in the background.

MistressOfMerrivale72webHere’s the blurb:
A marriage of convenience…full of inconvenient secrets.

Jocelyn Townsend’s life as a courtesan bears no resemblance to the life she envisioned in girlish dreams. But it allows her and her eccentric mother to live in relative security—until her protector marries and no longer requires her services.

Desperate to find a new benefactor, one kind enough to accept her mother’s increasingly mad flights of fancy, Jocelyn is nearly overwhelmed with uncertainty when a lifeline comes from an unexpected source.

Leo Sherbourne’s requirements for a wife are few. She must mother his young daughter, run his household, and warm his bed. All in a calm, dignified manner with a full measure of common sense. After his late wife’s histrionics and infidelity, he craves a simpler, quieter life.

As they embark on their arrangement, Leo and Jocelyn discover an attraction that heats their bedroom and a mutual admiration that warms their days. But it isn’t long before gossip regarding the fate of Leo’s first wife, and his frequent, unexplained absences, make Jocelyn wonder if the secrets of Merrivale Manor are rooted in murder…

Warning: Contains mysterious incidents, a mad mother who screeches without provocation, scheming relatives, and a captivating husband who blows scorching hot and suspiciously cold. All is not as it seems…and isn’t that delicious?

#MeetandGreetMonday with Jennifer Kacey #EllorasCave #Exotika #Erotic

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Erotic Romance Author, Jennifer Kacey.

Welcome, Jennifer!

What is the first thing you do once out of bed every morning?
Put my contacts in actually. It wakes me up. It’s like caffeine without the jitters. ***GRINS***

Do you lie in bed a few minutes longer once your alarm goes off, or do you get out of bed immediately?
Alarm, five minute snooze, alarm, five minute snooze, alarm, five minute snooze, and then I check my email and text messages from the night before and THEN I get out of bed.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Bruno Mars …When I Was Your Man cover – Fifth Harmony
Shifters …Harry Potter (seriously that was random)
Vacation … a topless beach somewhere that comes with a pool boy named Pacho that only understands the English words more and lick
Game of Thrones …….nothing
Robert Downey Jr…hooker? HA!

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where do you live, do you have a significant other, any young ones running around?
In the heart of TX. Yea! I’m married (14 years) and have an 11 yr old mini man, plus two cats, two dogs and 35 fish. Yowza.

What is the most devilish thing you’ve ever done? (ie: Pranks?)
I’m not a big prankster. I literally can’t think of any pranks I’ve pulled. Huh. Apparently I have some catching up to do.

What are you a collector of?
Shot glasses, pez dispensers, little vials of sand from everywhere I visit, jewelry, HIGH heel shoes, books. Lots and lots of books.

If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
Brown spaghetti. It’s a cream of mushroom soup concoction with scratchmade meatballs served over angel hair pasta. SOOO good!!!

Have you read any books that have made you cry?
Absolutely! Love emotion in books. What throws me every time is if I’m re-reading one of my books in edits and I get emotional. Hello. I know what happens, yet somehow it’s still gripping. Love that so much!

Who do you think is hotter – Karl Urban or Taylor Kinney?
Ummm…yeah. Apparently I don’t watch enough TV cause I have no clue who either of those guys are. I’m going to say Channing Tatum beats anyone. Damn he can dance.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Guy – see Above, Girl – Liz Tyler (she’s so pretty!)

What three words would your family use to describe you?
Confident, hyper-organized, go-getter!!

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Oh lordy! Eden Bradley, CJ Roberts, Jayne Rylon, Sidney Bristol, Shayla Black, Maya Banks, JR Ward, Sabrina York, and LOTS MORE!

If you had the chance to meet one author – past or present – who would it be? Why?
JR Ward I think. I’d like to see how she is in person and see what she loves and hates about being so well known. Ask her about how she gets into her characters heads. Her medical background. Just a neat lady I’d love to meet.

Who/What are you currently reading?
Watching it All which is two stories. One by Jayne Rylon and the other by JK Coi. Love those girls! They write wicked hot.

Writing can be a crazy business. How do you stay positive within the craziness?
Loving what I do. Loving what I write. Having passionate fans who are a bit frenzied for the next book. How can you not be on cloud 9 all the time?

Did you always want to be an author?
NO!!! Not until I had a dream and couldn’t shake it until I wrote it down. So thankful for that dream!

What is your one pet peeve about the writing business?
Telling me something is ABSOLUTELY going to happen at a certain time and then it doesn’t with some ridiculous excuse. If I can stick to my deadlines then I think others should be able to as well.

Orgasm University:

orgasmuniversity_msrVictoria’s been called frigid by every boyfriend she’s ever had. Having never gotten off during sex with even one of them probably has something to do with it. But none of them knew how broken she really is. She not only hasn’t gotten off having sex, she’s never orgasmed…EVER.

Then she sees an interdepartmental memo for a university study that claims it can help with her little problem. Once she signs her name on the dotted line, Dr. Hotlidge, finds all the right buttons to push.

He’s been looking for the perfect subject for his grant study, but something’s been missing from each of the women he’s questioned so far. Everything changes when Jane Smith #129 steps into his exam room.

It’s supposed to be anonymous, clinical research and nothing more. But when he finds her inner submissive hiding just below the surface, they both find more than they bargained for.

#MeetandGreetMonday with Raven McAllan #Romance

MGMondaysGood morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Romance Author, Raven McAllan.

Welcome, Raven!
Describe a typical day in the life of Raven McAllan.
Nothing typical I guess. It all depends where I am. At home on a weekday I walk, then make coffee, shove the washing machine on and write. Around 4pm I realize I’ve forgotten to sort dinner, eat lunch, set the fire, unload the washer etc etc. Weekends its DH time. On holiday I get up early and write for an hour before DH gets up and we enjoy our relaxation time together.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Romance …
awwwww
Licorice … Damn it it has gluten in it, so it’s a do not eat food.
Vacation …Sun
Thor … Thunder
Tulips … Amsterdam. ( I was there a few weekends ago and they were magnificent)

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where do you live, do you have a significant other, any young ones running around?
I live in Scotland with my SO and one cat. The young ones are all grown up and flown the nest. so DH and I rattle around in a house too big for us, but we love where we live. (On the edge of a forest)

Preference – Sam or Dean Winchester? If you haven’t seen Supernatural (and why not! It’s MY Fave show LOL), then would you prefer Iron Man or Wolverine?
Um, I have to confess I’m er who? To all of them. Johnny Depp all the way.

What do you like to do for fun and relax?
Well if it’s the one day of summer ( I live in Scotland) It’s sit in the garden with DH, a good book and a glass of wine. Other than that, I walk most days, and love, love, love, holidays and discovering new places. I also do tapestry and cross stitch.

What five items do you take everywhere with you – besides cell phone, keys and purse/wallet?
Tissues, Kindle, Driving license, tinted lip balm, notebook with a pencil attached. DH would say My MacBook Air, but that only goes almost everywhere!

If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
Well it would be gluten free, so probably curry, or something seafood.

Have you read any books that have made you cry?
The Far Pavilions, by M.M. Kaye.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Sadly I’m boring, I don’t really have one. Mind you I do think Johnny Depp in Chocolat is a bit of all right.

What three words would your family use to describe you?
Loving, caring, opinionated.

If you were given an all-expense paid, five day/night trip to anywhere, where would you go?
Somewhere I’ve never been before. I’m very lucky. Dh are doing our gap year in two week stints, and I’ve been to some fantastic places. I’d like to go back to the Great Wall of China though, and to see the terra-cotta warriors.

If you had the chance to meet one author – past or present – who would it be? Why?
M. M. Kaye. Her autobiography of living in India during the first half of the twentieth century, is so evocative.

Who/What are you currently reading?
I’m actually rereading Village School by Miss. Read. When I’m in the middle of a WIP I tend to shy away from any book that might influence what I’m writing.

Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
I’m a member of a fantastic group UCW. We all got together during an abortive competition attempt, and have encouraged each other ever since. They dared me to write Wallflowers Don’t Wilt, after I announced, to everyone’s surprise, including my own, that I was going to write a Regency f/f/m. Then they all helped me edit it, do a synopsis and blurb, and decide where to send it.
When I got the yes email, it was 3am, and I’d got up for a drink of water (and checked my emails as you do) . I then woke DH up, who was ‘ohh great tell me again later’, and went back to sleep) And emailed a fantastic writer in New Zealand, Robyn Donald who also encouraged me all the way. Her books described New Zealand so well it made me want to go there. Our daughter did her gap year in that country, so when we went to visit her, Robyn invited me for tea, and told me not to give up.

Writing can be a crazy business. How do you stay positive within the craziness?
Eat chocolate, and know that my author friends are all in the same boat. We laugh, cry and support each other all the way.

No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
I have no idea. I really don’t. It just sort of hits me, and the characters shout loudly until one wins.

What is your one pet peeve about the writing business?
Um… Pirates. We work long and hard to get our books from our mind to your eReader. For someone to steal it is horrible. would they go into a bookshop and take a print book? And then to be told by someone ‘well I can’t afford to buy a book’, so how about asking the author if they can give you one? Because let’s face it not many authors can afford to write for nothing, as much as we wish we could. We have to eat and pay bills as well. Okay rant over. (Almost, but when you see hundreds of pirated downloads you do get disheartened.)

From Raven:
I often get asked where I get my inspiration from and I find it almost impossible to answer that. It sort of just hits me, for no apparent reason and at any time and place.

Me Buchanan Castle Serting for DiomhairI can’t say how I decided to write Diomhair, yet again I just thought one day, ohh a BDSM club in a Scottish Castle. I like that. It was only once I started writing, I thought of ‘the castle’. I use a lot of Scotland in my books, after all I live there, and I know it’s what I say it is. Note In didn’t say where it is, because I’ll hold my hands up and admit I do fudge where something is on occasion. A house I used in one of my YA books is in a great setting so I moved it to another (equally great) setting, where no houses exist. It wouldn’t be fair to the occupiers to have someone ask if this is where Brios lived and can we see round. (It does happen, I know people who live in a house where someone write a very famous book, and they often get people knocking at the door asking to see inside.)

So when I knew which castle it was, I took the liberty of moving it a few miles, and ignoring some of the surroundings. After all I write to entertain and a wee bitty (that’s the Scottish voice coming out) poetic license is allowed surely.

Diomhair, Gaelic for secret and pronounced as best I can write phonetically, ‘jeever’. It burned down when the present owners were children, and it’s been recently restored to become Diomhair.

Sadly the real castle hasn’t, but oh my, has it given me idea. And for that i’m so very thankful.

One of the pleasurable—well to me—aspects of writing is the research. I love history, love reading and love looking around places. Nosiness, but it is research honestly. And it’s amazing how much of that nosiness comes in handy even in contemporary stories.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit some amazing places both here in the U.K. and elsewhere, and take lots of pictures and notes. So if you read something and think, ohh I wonder if Raven’s been there, more often than not the answer is yes.

On the other hand when someone asks if what I describe in my books are all from experience, more often than not the answer is no. I have a good imagination, and like I said, I love research.

Happy Reading,

Love R x

#MeetandGreetMonday with Nikka Michaels #Romance #MM @NikkaMichaels

MGMondays

Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!

With us today is Romance Author, Nikka Michaels.

 Welcome, Nikka!
Thanks for having me! 🙂

Describe a typical day in the life of you and your Muse.
Wake up, drink all the coffee in the known universe, then hop on the inter webs and catch up with the social media stuff, then I brainstorm with my co-writer Eileen Griffin if we’re working on a project together. After that? I write. And work on all the other things like around the house stuff and hang with the family. Then write some more.

Tell us, what’s the first thought that comes to your head when you read the following words…
Romance …isn’t just a guilty pleasure.
Winter …break.
Vacation …staycation.
Thor …me.
The Walking Dead…scare the bejesus out of me.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where do you live, do you have a significant other, any young ones running around?
I’m blessed to live in Portland, Oregon full of quirky people, breweries and lots of good food. I have a family which include a significant other, a couple of minions and a farty dog.

What is your favorite junk food?
Cheeseburger. I haz it.

What do you like to do for fun and relax?
Read. Listen to music. Cook. Eat.

If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
Spaghetti and bacon filled meatballs. With extra cheese.

Who do you think is hotter – Liam or Chris Hemsworth?
Liam. Hands down. I’m a sucker for a brunett.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Chef Chuck Hughes. Him speaking French just does all the right things.

What three words would your family use to describe you?
Scatterbrained, Goofy, Funny.

What is the most played song on your iPod/MP3 Player?
Right now? Probably Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. Big Minion loves to sing along.

What song are you most sick of hearing right now?
Right now? Happy by Pharell. I love the song and him but it’s overplayed right now.

If you had the chance to meet one author – past or present – who would it be? Why?
I’d love to meet my co-writer Eileen Griffin in person one day. We’re besties separated by distance but she always makes me laugh. And she’s an awesome writer. (I’m spoiled since she lets me beta read)

Who/What are you currently reading?
Stay by Riley Hart.

Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
My big break was a novella called Chasing Matt, co-written with Eileen Griffin. It was definitely a learning experience, from writing to revising, to editing to the whole subbing process. The one person who has always believed in me is Eileen. When something I write sucks? She’ll tell me and she pushes me to write better.
My family took me out to celebrate my first contract and I had a big old cheeseburger. 🙂

Writing can be a crazy business. How do you stay positive within the craziness?
Just keep writing, surround yourself with positive people, realize every day you get to do this is a gift, accept criticism, learn from it and always grow.

No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
Music. I have to have music to write.

What do you find most challenging about writing?
Outlining. I used to be a pantser but it’s too easy for me to get overwhelmed so learning how to do outlines to stay on track has been the most challenging thing about writing.

Nikka’s Note:
Lip Service was fun to write as it’s revisiting Seth and Carson from Room Service. I admire what they have and how they make time for each other even though they’re always busy. It might not be a relationship for everyone but these two make it work and I love writing about nontraditional relationships.

LipService_300x454What is Cobblestone Press’ Blue Line?
The Blue short story line is erotica. For us, erotica is about the fulfillment of a sexual fantasy.  These stories are sexy, very graphic, and are by no means a “traditional romance”.

Dr. Seth Campbell and Carson Randall from ROOM SERVICE return in this short erotic sequel. Separated by their jobs on a daily basis, the partners have to make time for each other when they can. They combine their passion for each other in mini interludes to reconnect with each other and rekindle their connection.

When Seth finds Carson waiting for him in the hotel bar, their attraction and awareness smolders to life. When their already limited time together is interrupted by an important phone call, an impatient Seth takes matters into his own hands.
