He wants to stay in his adopted home city, but he loves the roar of the crowd as well as their adoration. Can the star drummer step away from the buzz of fame long enough to grab what he needs with both hands or will the lure of the crowd be too much?

Matt Walker knew from the moment he got involved with Jacen that their relationship was temporary. Jacen’s a celebrity and he holds the position of the sexiest eligible bachelor of the band. Even if Matt saw a future for him and Jacen, the odds aren’t in their favor. But he can hope, right? He’s been head over heels in love with Jacen since the moment they met.

Matt busied himself with straightening the counter space and trying not to watch Jacen. Fuck. How could he not? The man featured in his dreams and had become his favorite spank bank material. He swept his gaze over Jacen. The denim shorts hugged his hips and accentuated the strength in his legs. Jacen rubbed the back of his neck with his fingers and flexed his upper body.

Jesus. Was Jacen trying to turn him on? If so, he’d accomplished his mission. Matt plopped onto the stool and pressed his knees together. Blood rushed to his cock and his mouth watered. Just a few touches. Kisses. He didn’t want much. Really.

“Mother fucker.” Jacen whipped around and held his phone in a white-knuckled grasp as he strode back to the desk. “He’s a piece of shit. Where are those peas?”

Matt offered up the bag. “Whoever it is, I hope you lit into him.” He shut the laptop down, then moved the device to the lower portion of the counter. “Better pick up your key before you forget.” He slid the card across to Jacen. “Have a good night…well, a better one than you’ve had so far.”

“Huh?” Jacen glared at Matt and plunked the bag back onto his bruise. “Are you here all night? I thought Cady hired on people to work the desk so you and her weren’t stuck.”

“She did, but this is my night. I have to earn my keep somehow.” He grinned to hide his displeasure. “I can’t feed my music and running habits without some source of income.”

Jacen tucked his phone into his pocket and lingered at the counter. “Want some company? I came here to work on music, yeah, but that wasn’t the only reason.” He offered up the bag. “I’ve melted this.”

“I’ll stick it back in the freezer. No problem.” He gripped the melting frozen food. “Stick around a moment in case anyone comes in and I’ll put it back.” He left Jacen alone long enough to put the peas in the fridge. He’d probably make them for lunch the next day instead of wasting them. When he returned, Jacen had rounded the counter.

“All good?” Jacen asked.

“I’ve got lunch for tomorrow.” He tensed. “Thanks for holding down the fort.” He expected Jacen to leave, but instead, he crept closer to Matt.

“I didn’t just return for Rory and the music. I came here for you, too.”

“Me?” He frowned. “What?” He had to be hearing Jacen wrong. No way Jacen meant that.

“Uh, yeah. You.”

“Forty-six hours and counting until we’re legal.” Peter Barnes eased up behind his fiancé, Kenley Kissinger and nibbled on Kenley’s earlobe. “Forty-six hours until we’re set.”

“We’re already set. We live together. How is that not set?” Kenley chuckled and resumed washing the dishes. He placed a soapy plate under the faucet and rinsed. “The wedding just means we’re official. Speaking of official, you never did say how we were handling the name situation. I’m fine with a hyphen.”

“I forgot about it. A hyphen works for me.” He let go of Kenley and picked up the towel. He liked the domesticity he and Kenley had settled into. He had a place he belonged and someone who loved Peter—not the male model part of his persona. He dried one of the dinner plates and glanced around the kitchen. When he’d moved in with Kenley, the house resembled Kenley’s tightly wound personality. The man liked his organization and hated clutter. Peter loved clutter. He loved leaving his clothes all over the floor and his styling products around the bathroom sink. They were opposites in most every way, but they seemed to make things work, and he loved it.

“Did you finalize the guest list?” Kenley turned off the water and wiped his hands on a towel. “Your friend, Roscoe, told me over the phone that he was doing the place cards. Peter, I thought we’d decided on a small wedding.”

“We did.” He’d forgotten about talking to Roscoe. The wedding to Kenley was in less than two days. He couldn’t seem to keep his head on straight, let alone remember who he’d delegated to help with the planning. Getting married on Valentine’s Day had been a stroke of genius on his part and he wanted to get the ceremony over with. He was ready to be officially married to Kenley.

Leo sighed. He still didn’t understand all the little sayings, and all he pictured was John’s head turning into a pair of ears—with no face. He scratched his head and focused on why he’d come to John. “I like being a shifter and all, but I want to make some changes.” There. He’d said it. How would John react?

“You can’t be a lion all of the time or abandon your animal side. That’s impossible, so what did you have in mind?”

Leo tugged on his hair. “I want to change this. I want to cut it. Can I do that?” He wasn’t sure why he felt compelled to ask. He’d seen plenty of shows on television where people simply cut their hair without asking anyone’s permission. But as far as he knew, they weren’t shifters.

“Oh. I don’t see why not. It’s your hair, so it’s your choice.” John cocked his head. “I can set up an appointment with the guy who cuts my hair.”

“There’s one more thing.” He paused and sucked in a ragged breath. “I want a tattoo.”

John’s eyebrows rose. “A tattoo?”

“If that’s what those drawings on skin are called, then yes, a tattoo.” He knew what he wanted, too.

“I don’t know how that would affect your lion form, but it’s your body.” John frowned. “I haven’t thought about it. Would the tat show up on the lion’s body? And would cutting your hair affect your mane? I’m not sure.”

Leo had asked for the first two things without much resistance. Now for the third. “I want to get a piercing, too.”

“Oh boy,” John said. “You want to go all in. Is this because of Axl?”

“Huh?” He’d wanted to stand out. Maybe, if he had something special about him, Axl would notice, but that wasn’t the main reason he wanted the tattoo or the piercing. He wanted to be himself. Being different felt right.

“You and Axl are tight, but he’s so…withdrawn and angry. Are you trying to get his attention or be like him? You’re handsome the way you are—no holes or ink needed.”

“I want to be different.” He wasn’t sure why. He just knew that’s what he wanted.

“A tattoo will certainly make you different.” John folded his arms. “I can’t tell you not to, but I’d suggest running it by Axl.”

“He’s not my mate.” Although, I want him to be.

Farin drifted his gaze over the man. He liked tall men, and this one was at least five-eleven. Thin, but not too thin. When he glanced back at Farin, he offered him a good look at his face. Chocolate-brown eyes and a dimple. Goodness fuck, the man had a dimple.

The tips of Farin’s ears warmed and his neck prickled. Shit. He shouldn’t be ogling the swim instructor. He was a dirty old man who needed a date.

The guy clapped his hands. “Okay, you guys. The others will be here shortly. I want you and Gage to do laps. Show me you’ve been practicing your breathing.” He put his hands together and dived into the water. He barely made a splash and moved through the pool like a fish. When he surfaced, droplets glistened on his body and accentuated his strong form.

Farin’s jaw slackened. The man was so hot and even better wet. He’d read plenty of books describing characters as poetry in motion, but he’d never believed something like that was possible until he saw the swim instructor. Or was he the coach? Farin wasn’t sure.

By the time Gage and the other children climbed out of the pool, an hour had passed. Farin barely noticed. He’d been too engrossed in watching the teacher.

Gage wandered up to Farin, leaving sloshy wet footprints in his wake. “Hey, Uncle Farin. Are you in there?” He waved his hand in front of Farin’s face. “Uncle Farin?”

“Sorry.” He focused his attention on Gage. “I was thinking.”

“About a guy?” Gage’s eyes widened. “Dad always says he’s thinking when he’s really thinking about Jordan—or when I’m in trouble. I’m not in trouble, right?”

“I don’t think you are.” He handed his nephew the towel. “It looked like you were having fun. You’ve got the backstroke down pat.”

“It’s my favorite one.” Gage draped the towel over his head. “I’m going to change. Mr. Moore wanted to talk to you once we’re all done. I don’t know what about. He’s in the changing room, so I can’t get into any trouble.”

“Oh.” Farin tucked his tablet into his bag, then stood and stretched. His ass ached from sitting on the hard bleacher, and his back had stiffened from being hunched over. Part of him wanted to follow his nephew into the changing room to monitor the situation. The rest of him wanted to check out the swim instructor. The wet trunks left little to the imagination, but Farin wanted to unwrap him and check out his package.

Farin blinked. No—no dirty thoughts about the swim teacher. Squelch the dirtiness before it overtakes you. Time to let his head, not his heart and libido, lead the way. If only his libido would agree to the decision. He’d screwed himself over one too many times by thinking with his dick. This guy had to be about nineteen at best and way too young. Farin sighed. He was thirty years old. He needed to start thinking about settling down and planning for retirement, not finding a date.
