Review: 4 out of 5 stars ~ I enjoyed Alien Attraction for its great humour, steamy love scenes, and thrilling pace. Angela didn’t capture me as much as Chal did, but that’s just personal taste. Overall, it is another amazing story by this author.

Excerpt (Adult)

Resting his palm on her hip bone, he resisted the urge to scoop her up in his arms and take her to the bedroom. Could living in this part of the world be so easy for his kind? “What about you? Could you fall in love with an alien?”

She smiled, her body relaxing again. “I am absolutely sure I could.”

“What about a regular human being?” Slowly gathering her skirt up her legs, he waited for her answer. Would she reject him?

“Could I fall in love with someone from Earth? Sure.” She moved her hand down and began to rub his inner thigh. “If that someone is you.”

Lust oozed out of her pores, accelerating his desire. He sat up, anxious to kiss her sweet lips. So soft and tender. She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned back, pulling him on top of her. Chal plunged his tongue into her mouth the way he wanted to experience other parts of her.

Angela held the hem of his sweater, drawing the material up until he was forced to draw back for a moment to get the dang thing off. As she trailed her palms up and down his back, Chal slipped his hands under the skirt of her dress. He yearned for more. All of her. No internal warnings with his neighbor. Every inch of his being encouraged him on, to make the ultimate connection with the woman who said she could love an alien.

Clasping her waist, he ran his thumbs along the edge of her undergarments. With a throaty moan, she thrust toward him. Encouragement?

He lifted his head and gazed into her honey-colored eyes. “Do you want this?”

She nodded and pulled him back down, claiming his mouth the way he yearned to claim her. When she elevated her hips, he slid his fingers beneath her undergarments and shimmied them down her thighs.

A Destiny Romance
by S.J. Maylee

Available on Amazon for 0.99 or Kindle Unlimited

Book Description:

While Kate Sanderson mixes batter and pumps buttercream inside her tasty creations at the West Egg restaurant, she dreams about two things: owning a bakery and finding a man capable of satisfying her every desire. Mark Larosa designs little masterpieces daily at his tiny barista station at the local Star Coffee and he tailors each drink to the customer. The only cup he can’t seem to get right is for the sassy baker, Kate. He’s determined to give her what she really wants.

When a new building goes up across the street, the pair trip over each other trying to grab the last unit before a chain restaurant claims their dream. To get what they crave, they might have to work together and find the elusive common ground.

Be Warned: light BDSM, public exhibition

“Mark! I was hoping you’d make it.” Sam crossed the room and barrel-hugged him.

“Sorry I’m late. I went to the club first.” He caught Kate’s gaze from across the room. The man looked more delicious than she remembered. His V-neck shirt hugged his upper body in a way that made her envious.

“Well, you’re here now, buddy. Come on in. Kate has a spread for us. You can take your pick.”

She coughed to hide her gasp and made her way out to the back patio. The evening had yet to cool, but she still shivered. Hiding was not how she intended to handle things. Facing him now after thinking about him all day wasn’t an option either.

The small wooden platform was normally her oasis except the muffled sounds of the party inside wouldn’t let her forget where she was. Their corner lot didn’t offer them privacy but they couldn’t argue with the location. They were in the center of everything. She turned around and found the cause of her troubles coming outside. Her gaze shot to ten different places, anywhere but him.

“Just the woman I was looking for.” He closed the door behind him and then crossed the deck in an easy stride.

“Excuse me.” She stepped to get around him. A quiver rolled through her belly. “I was just going back inside.”

“I’ve been searching for you all night.” He blocked her path. “I’d hoped to find you at the club tonight.”

“Why?” He probably wanted a repeat performance. Her thoughts filled with all the naughty things he could do if he came closer. She shook her head. No way was she letting this guy near her again. Falling fast and getting her heart stomped was not on her to-do list.

“I wanted to apologize.” The low tone of his voice sank deep into her senses.

“That’s unnecessary. Not everyone can make a good cup of coffee.” She gazed into his deep blue eyes. Her pussy warmed at the sight of him. She shuffled back until she reached the railing, needing to keep her thoughts clear and her heart away from becoming easy pickings.

“What?” He stepped in next to her, clearly not deterred.

“I hope you have other skills because I don’t think you have a future in coffee.” She grabbed hold of the patio ledge. The lie sounded catty, but she hoped it would do the trick and cement a wall between them.

“I see.” He looked her up and down. “You’re one of those girls.”

She flipped her hair over her shoulder. “If you mean smart enough to stay away from players like you, then yes, I am one of those girls.” She put her hands on her hips.

He removed all the space between them. His thigh brushed hers. “Well, I tried one of your croissants today.”

“And?” She sucked on her bottom lip and pressed out her breasts.

“It was okay.” He leaned over her. His lips were within reach.

“What? That’s ludicrous. My baking is far from just okay.” She took a step forward, intending to put distance between them. He didn’t let her get away. When her body met his warm strength, she melted and moaned from somewhere deep within.

“I’ll tell you what’s ludicrous.” He grabbed her ass. “All the effort it’s taking you to deny what you feel when you see me.” The tone of his voice chipped away at the last of her reserve.

“That’s crap.” She pushed on his chest and got nowhere. “You didn’t even want to talk to me at your coffee house.”

“That’s not true. It doesn’t count if you didn’t want to be recognized.” He tapped the end of her nose.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” She swatted at his hand.

“I have an idea.”

“I can hardly wait to hear it.” She grabbed the ledge on either side of her.

“How about you leave all the fancy baking behind and stick with something simple, like a donut?”

“Is that so?”

“It is. You disagree?” He brought his lips close to hers.

“Donuts require finesse, actually. A trait I manage skillfully. I’ll tell you what.” She licked her lips. “I’ll make you one of my cronuts. Do you even know what that is?” She couldn’t remember ever letting a guy get her this worked up. Just the thought of him standing in her kitchen had goosebumps dancing up her back.

“I do. It’s some kind of croissant-doughnut.” He inched closer, removing all the space between them.

“It’s fried decadence that will blow your mind.” The heat building inside cracked through her barriers. She raised her leg and pressed her pussy along his hard cock.

“Is that an invitation?” He took a deep breath and rocked against her.

“To eat? Absolutely.” She licked her bottom lip.

When he turned to face her, he was confronted by her back. She’d turned away from him, pretending to inspect an ornate vase set upon a table that was a work of art in and of itself. The arrangement of flowers bursting from the top of it were lovely, but hardly worthy of her intense scrutiny. Camden grinned as he approached. She was trying to avoid conversation with him.

“Well, well,” he murmured, pausing just before the toes of his evening shoes touched the hem of her gown. “Miss Margaret Seymour, we meet at last.”

She tensed, her back going stiff. “Your Grace—”

“Camden,” he insisted, his voice dropping to a low whisper.

Your Grace,” she rasped through gritted teeth. “Please, this is quite unseemly.”

He stole a glance over his shoulder to ensure they went unseen. His broad shoulders all but shielded her from the rest of the room, and the others were too entrenched in their own conversations to notice them. He brought his hand up, allowing his fingers to trail from the nape of her neck, down to where her dress began, then further, tracing the row of tiny buttons running down the back of the garment.

“My name, love,” he murmured, his eyes fixating on the curve of her neck and almost-bare shoulders. “I want to hear you say it again, as you did the night we were together. You whispered it when I teased your perfect tits with my tongue. You moaned it when I tasted your sweet little cunt. You screamed it when I fucked you.”

She shivered as he shifted, just a bit closer. So close now, that his breath rustled the stray hairs caressing the back of her neck. Her shudder caused his cock to pulsate with painful insistence. The thrill of being near her again overcame his good sense and he lowered his head toward her, his lips brushing the back of her neck.

“Camden,” she mewled, swaying back toward him. The swell of her ass brushed against his crotch, almost crippling him.

He gritted his teeth and moved until he was beside of her and fought against the erection begging to be sheathed. “That’s better,” he growled. “Now, what have you done to yourself?” He pretended to inspect the arrangement as well, but studied her in his peripheral vision. Her milky white and pale green gown was lovely, yet hardly did her justice; not as the scarlet getup she’d worn to the masquerade had.

She frowned, turning her head a tick and spearing him with a confused glance. “I beg your pardon?”

“What happened to the vivacious little vixen I spent the night with?” he demanded, his voice raising a bit. “The one who waltzed with me beneath the stars and kissed me so boldly in public? The one who gave me one of the best nights of my life before running out in the morning without a nary a good-bye? What have you done with her?”

She squared her shoulders, avoiding his gaze once more. “You are mistaken if you believe the woman you met is the woman I truly am. I wore more than one mask that night, Camden. This is who I am. Miss Margaret Seymour, daughter of Baron Lisbroke and Lady Seymour. Prim and proper lady. For God’s sake, I am not even allowed to waltz in public yet.”

Camden heard the derision in her tone. The woman she claimed to be was not who she truly wished to be, that much was clear. “I don’t believe you,” he said. “I believe this mask—the one you wear now—is the true façade. It is no wonder I never noticed you. How could I, when you’ve hidden your true self away?”

She lowered her eyes to the carpet, though her shoulders remained squared, her head erect. “In case you hadn’t noticed, the ton isn’t exactly forgiving toward women who step outside the dictates of society—especially when one is not of high rank like, say, a duchess.”

He frowned at that. Damn her, she was right and now he felt like a bloody fool for the things he’d said. Of course she played the role of the biddable daughter and debutante. She could never make a good match otherwise. Although, now, if she did make a good match she’d have the devil of a time explaining her lack of virginity. While many women of the ton were familiar with ways of tricking their bridegrooms into believing they’d deflowered a virgin, Maggie did not seem the type to stoop to deceit.

Her dilemma wasn’t his concern. Not when she’d assured him that a night with him had been her deepest desire. If Cranfield was too dense to know the difference between a real maidenhead and a false one, then the man deserved what he got.

“Meet me tonight,” he whispered, ensuring once more that they went unheard. “You can be yourself with me, you know that.”

“I cannot,” she said. “The first time was a risk. To do it again would be …”

“The fulfillment of your wildest dreams,” he said, when she’d trailed off. “You confessed as much to me, remember? However, you did not allow me to prove my prowess beyond the one time we made love. Don’t you want to know what it’s like to straddle me and ride my cock? Or to rest on your hands and knees while I fuck you from behind, giving me the perfect view of that pretty little backside?”

She bit her lower lip and her eyes slid closed. “Camden, please.”

“Yes,” he murmured, “there will be plenty of that. Yes, Camden. Please, Camden. More, Camden. You want it, Maggie, and so do I. Come to me tonight.”

Her eyes flew open, darting as she seemed to think over his proposal. He held his breath. She was on the verge of capitulating, he could feel it.

“You can spend the rest of your life as a stuffy, boring, married lady if that’s what you wish,” he continued. “But before then, you should know what true pleasure is. Do something for yourself, something you truly want, before you’re forced to bend to duty.”

A breath of a moment passed between them before she replied. Her answer was a whispered, tortured sound. “Yes. I want that.”

He grinned. “Good girl.”

My Review:

5 Stars!
I really enjoyed the first book in the Scandalous Ballroom Encounter Series. It is a bold and thrilling tale of finding one’s own way through life and not allowing anyone to make decisions for them. Maggie is a fierce and sassy heroine I liked a lot. Camden endeared himself to me with his rakish and charming ways. I loved these characters together, the smoldering passion that leaped off the pages and the excitement that there will be more to this series soon!!

Bourbon Street was just as she remembered—loud music and neon lights, frat boys in muscle shirts and girls in crop tops, the stench of beer and pine-scented antiseptic cleaner, the sidewalks littered with garbage and puke. Their little entourage stumbled into the first club they found, which had “Play That Funky Music” blaring from the speakers. Stacy shook her head. Some things truly never changed. Bars on Bourbon Street would play that song until some ultimate, catastrophic apocalypse finally managed to wipe the city out for good.

The barker at the door proudly announced that the club was now offering their world famous three-for-one happy hour. The vodka tonic Stacy ordered was served in a plastic cup the size of which was rarely seen outside of a 7-Eleven. It contained more alcohol than any human should probably ever consume in a single serving, and she was glad to see that in addition to the bad music, the drinking culture had not changed either.

She headed toward the back of the club, outside into the little courtyard area where the music was somewhat blunted and she was less likely to have a drink spilled over her. The others followed, people in the group talking amongst themselves and goggling at the drunken antics on the dance floor. Peter had fallen back to walk alongside Melanie, and they ambled slowly, their heads close together, taking softly. Stacy sighed. So much for the whole reason to participate in this journey. Not that she could blame him. Melanie was gorgeous. Still, the rejection stung. Not that it would’ve worked anyway. The distance between them would have eventually become a hassle.

She sipped her cocktail, watching the dance floor light up red, then blue, then green as the strobe light pulsed over the dancers. Once again, she had a choice and none of her options were all too appealing. She could go back to the hotel and try to find a new group of people to talk with, she could go to bed, or she could stay right where she was and basically drink alone.

“Let’s go someplace quieter,” Peter shouted over the music and everybody agreed.

She followed them back out onto Bourbon Street, seriously considering her next move. Should I stay or should I go now? She let the chorus play out in her head and in that one millisecond pause, a drunken man wearing only jeans shorts and plastic beads lunged at her from the crowd. She sidestepped around him and almost collided with a woman exiting Pat O’Briens. The woman squealed and Stacy veered off the sidewalk into the street. A group of tourists swept her away, forcing her backward along with them. She fought against the wave of bodies, but it was a losing battle. And then, out of nowhere, a hand grabbed her arm, a lifeline in the storm.

The tourists continued on their journey, but Stacy was held in place, firmly anchored by that strong grip. The hold on her arm was a little too familiar for a stranger and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to thank or berate her rescuer. She turned, and her breath caught when she recognized her savior. “Hello, Ten.”

“Hey, Stacy.”

He grinned and every single part of her tingled. He was as attractive as she remembered—tall and strong, with rich, chocolate-brown hair, and a twinkle of mischief in his startling green eyes. The years had changed him only slightly, taking away the softness of youth and adding hard ridges and planes to his handsome face. His hair was a little too long, and he had a two-day beard, but the scruffiness didn’t take away from his almost poetic good looks. And though she would never admit it out loud, just the way his thighs filled out his well-worn blue jeans sent a thread of wicked heat trickling down her spine. Ten was the stuff of all kinds of naughty fantasies, and a few of her favorite ones instantly flashed through her mind.

A quick review from me… 5 out of 5 Stars!
I loved the chemistry between Ten and Stacy. Their reunion is full of tumultuous emotions and decisions that change both of their lives. The story moves quickly and there’s just enough backstory to reinforce their coming together again and the author kept me immensely engaged, hoping they can work out their obstacles and find their HEA.
A great romance to curl up with during a quiet afternoon, maybe with a cup of hot chocolate and in front of the fire. I dare readers not to fall for Ten. He’s an unforgettable hero.

Review: 5 out of 5 Stars
Secrets, parenthood, second chances, desperation and electrifying chemistry are intricately woven facets of Elise Marion’s latest release. Strong and determined characters, a journey of understanding, second chances and uplifting strength surround these multi-faceted characters that take a reader through powerful ups and downs and learning to live again. I enjoyed Rafe and Davina very much, they’re characters who jumped off the page and into my heart. Ms. Marion weaves such as an amazing romance, it was so fulfilling to read the first time, and I wanted to read it again right away. I do not read a lot of historical romances, simply because it’s not my genre of choice, but I absolutely recommend THE MISTRESS for all readers who love an awesome romance penned by a very talented author.
This book was provided to me by the author for an honest opinion, and I was not compensated in any way.

Davina approached and sank down onto the blanket beside him, laying on her side and facing him. “What a lovely day,” she said, propping her chin on her hand. “Don’t you think?”

He nodded. “Very much so. I cannot thank you enough for what you’ve done for Beth. I’ve never seen her so happy about the way she looks.”

“It was my pleasure. The poor girl just needed a little help to see that she is really quite attractive. I hope you don’t mind, I allowed her to use a small amount of cosmetics. I used a light hand.”

Rafe grunted. “So, that’s why her eyes looked so bright.”

Davina laughed. “Just a bit of kohl and some rouge on her cheeks, Rafe. I certainly wear more on occasion.”

“You don’t need to,” he said, unable to stop himself from reaching out to touch her face. “You are quite perfect without them.”

He’d expected her to smile, but she did not. Instead, she inched closer to him on the blanket, tilting her head invitingly. His throat constricted tightly, cutting off his air supply, and his stomach churned madly. Did she have any earthly idea what she was doing to him?

“Beth,” he whispered at her very blatant invitation for a kiss.

“She’s busy,” Davina murmured and Rafe knew there was no escape. Beth showed no signs of turning around to spy on them and was quite engrossed in making a daisy chain. “Please Rafe,” she said softly. “Kiss me again, like you did before.”

Rafe’s eyebrows wrinkled. “I’m not sure I know what you mean. How did I kiss you before?”

She sighed and closed her eyes, inching closer until her breasts were nearly pressed against his chest. He cradled her in one arm, his hand resting at her hip.

“You kissed me as if I were precious and fragile. You kissed me as if I meant something to you. No one has ever kissed me that way.”

He smirked and tweaked the tip of her nose playfully. “Have you been kissed much, Davina?”

Her eyes flew open and the sadness in the depths of her eyes was unmistakable. “Yes,” she answered honestly. Why shouldn’t she have been kissed many times? A woman with her looks must have had men fawning over her for most of her life. “But none of them ever took the time to mean it the way you did.”

That did it. The fragile chord of his control snapped and he closed the distance between them, pressing his mouth to hers insistently. She met him with a soft moan, a strangled cry of satisfaction as he kissed her with everything he had. The soft yet coarse rasp of her tongue against his set him on fire as he consumed her, giving her everything she’d never had in a kiss, showing her what he knew it should be. That he was the first—perhaps not the first to kiss her, but the first to make it count—filled him with a sense of primal satisfaction. She sighed and panted against his lips, her body squirming restlessly beneath his as he brought one leg over hers and pressed closer, his hips now against hers.

As their bodies met, he groaned and the sound was a duet with her breathless whisper.

His eyes flew open and he looked at her, struck by the pure desire he saw on her face. No woman had ever looked at him that way and it made him feel large, like a conquering hero. Her hero. Her eyes told him that she was his, that she would surrender to him willingly and purposely. It was a heady feeling.

“We are to be married tomorrow,” she said breathlessly. He could only nod in response. “Will you make me wait another night to make love to me? Or shall you take advantage of my unlocked door tonight?”

Speechless, Rafe swallowed, the sound noisy in the quiet glen. He was suddenly intimidated and aroused all at once. No, his mind screamed, no I will not make you wait another second! Yet, fear settled in and left him afraid. As much as she enthralled him and as much as he wanted her, she terrified him to no end. Could he truly take from her body, and give of his, without opening himself up to more pain and heartbreak? Things would have been so much simpler if they’d stayed within the agreed parameters of friendship.

She brushed her lips against his and smiled. “I will wait up for you,” she said, her deep, throaty voice rich with promise.
