Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!
With us today is Romance Author, Danita Minnis.
Welcome, Danita!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in New York City, the youngest of five girls. Just for giggles, I was once locked in the big, scary basement while my parents were at work. Is it any wonder I like a little horror with my romance? My teenaged son doesn’t have to worry about that, there’s only one of him! Actually, he may go willingly into the basement and stay there as long as you give him a laptop to play his online games.
Tell us about your “big break” in the publishing world. Was there any one person believe in your work first (besides yourself of course)? What did you do to celebrate your first contract?
I remember when I got the acceptance from my wonderful acquisitions editor at Liquid Silver Books and they told me Falcon’s Angel, A Cardiff Novel Book 1 would be published! I was standing in my kitchen and literally forgot what I was there for – to make breakfast. My family took me out to dinner that night. *g*
What are you a collector of?
I am a mug freak. Wherever we go on vacation I must buy a souvenir mug. I also collect towels and snowglobes. Between my trips and that of other family members I have amassed quite a collection.
Preference – Sam or Dean Winchester? If you haven’t seen Supernatural (and why not! It’s MY Fave show LOL), then would you prefer Iron Man or Wolverine?
Sam and Dean are cool but I’d be lying if I didn’t mention Hugh Jackman right now. I want to have his baby. And Joe Manganiello of True Blood can be the leader of my pack anytime.
What five items do you take everywhere with you – besides cell phone, keys and purse/wallet?
Yes, I carry hand sanitizer. I’m sort of a germophobe. When I switch purses, I never forget my son’s four-year-old photo painting in pre-school. That was such a sweet time. *g*
If we were to come over to your house for dinner, what dish would you make us?
Oh, I have a ‘first’ dish! The first time someone comes over for dinner it’s a tradition that I make lasagna. It’s the first dish I learned to cook. Depending on who is coming over and what I think suits their personality, I will make it different ways. Vegetable, meat and three-cheese lasagnas I do very well.
Did you always want to be an author?
I think so. When I was ten years old I wrote a short story about … a ten-year-old girl living in the Elizabethan age. J As a teenager, I wrote poems and then songs and then life happened and distracted me for a while.
What song are you most sick of hearing already this summer?
As a singer I love many types of music. It’s not so much a song as the person who is doing all that twerking. Enough, I’m all twerked out!
Who are some of your fave authors?
Anne Rice, Peter Straub, Jude Deveraux, Stephen King, Clive Cussler, Dean Koontz, Virginia Hensley, Clive Barker – ok, I’ll stop there. It’s a really long list!
Who/What are you currently reading?
I just finished Jude Deveraux’s True Love, the first book in the Nantucket Bride series and it was classic. Today, I’m going to start Anne Rice’s The Wolf Gift. I’m waiting patiently for the second book in this series, The Wolves of Midwinter to come out in October.
A Note from Danita:
Writing Dark Fantasies
I like a little horror with my love. I am attracted to both the light and dark sides of people, relationships, places. For me, those conflicts are what make a person unique. My hero Roman Cardiff in Love Entwined feels like a modern day Heathcliffe with a tragic family history and an undying love through the ages.
The journey to the Happily Ever After is murderous in my stories. Don’t get too comfortable with your favorite players, they may not be around too long. Besides, the next time you see them (sometimes they come back) they may not have the same endearing qualities you loved before. I love suspenseful writing and anywhere I can keep you guessing I’m going to do it. There are just too many Hitchcock movies and Twilight Zone episodes in my collection for me to ignore the calling.
Love, lust and ghosts – what better than that? Hmm, well, maybe vampires. They’re coming up next in Book 3 of the Cardiff Novel series.
