Good morning. It’s Meet and Greet Monday!
With us today is Romance Author, Carlene Love Flores.
Hi Kacey! Hi Kacey’s readers! *g* I’m very happy to be here.
What 3 words best describe who you are?
I’d like to share a three word phrase with you if that’s okay from a tattoo that really inspired me. It was Andy Whitfield’s (Spartacus actor) before he passed away. “Be Here Now”-I write those words down by hand somewhere every day as a reminder of who I want to be.
Did you always want to be an author?
Total honesty? Nope. I always had wonderful fantasies but never thought about writing any of them down until I was 33 years old. I guess the benefit is thirty plus years of ideas I have to draw from now.
What do you find most challenging about writing?
Ha! I find new challenges all the time but right now, it’s about how to keep writing the themes I love most without becoming repetitive in the individual stories.
What is your favorite junk food?
I recently discovered the ultimate junk food…it was a special Ben & Jerry’s flavor featuring a few of my favorite things: Jimmy Fallon on the carton and inside there were chocolate covered pieces of potato chips! Should’ve stocked up.
What is your favorite meal that you wish you could eat at least three times a week?
San Diego style rolled tacos that I can’t get here in D.C.
Preference – Sam or Dean Winchester? If you haven’t seen Supernatural (and why not! It’s MY Fave show LOL), then would you prefer Iron Man or Wolverine?
Here’s the deal…I know both those boys, Sam & Dean, are hotties, but a couple years ago I got to see Misha Collins on a Comic Con panel and he was adorable. So I’m going with Castiel on this.
**that’s perfectly okay, I love Cas too, Carlene!!* *g*
What are you a collector of? (knick-knacks, shoes, etc)
I have all of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books and most of her titles written as Kinley MacGregor. Absolutely love her.
Have you read any books that have made you cry?
Yes, “Acheron” by Sherrilyn Kenyon. His past was so heartbreaking and he’s so noble in spite of it.
Have you ever thrown a book you’ve been reading against the wall because you couldn’t finish it?
Haha, no I’d never do that. I’d just quietly move on to the next story in my to read pile. No harm, no foul.
No matter the story, where do you always draw inspiration from when you begin each story?
It never fails I’m laying down relaxing when I imagine two people in a vulnerable, intimate moment together. Usually one is crying or hurting and the other is soothing. Then it’s up to me to get up and start writing down how they got to that point.
What kind of beverage specialty would you provide for a dinner party?
No fair laughing, but that would have to be Shirley Temples. They’re sweet, fizzy and no one has to worry about driving home intoxicated when I’m ready for some alone time with hubby.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Okay, so this is silly but I’ve spent about fifteen minutes debating and it’s so hard to choose just one! Joseph Morgan, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Cavill, Dave Gahan, Jason Lewis, LaDanian Tomlinson, Jimmy Fallon, Alan Rickman, Alex Geerman. Stopping. Now.
** I LOVE me some Joseph Morgan too, Carlene!** *g*
Who/What are you currently reading?
A charming, sexy ghost story, “Wanted: One Ghost” by Loni Lynne.
What is your favorite section in the current book you’re writing?
I just wrote The End on this story, “Sin’s Haven”, and one of my favorite parts is in the beginning when the hero, Ben, is getting ready for a date with the help of one of his female friends. He’s funny, nervous, and vulnerable and I think incredibly sexy….
“Does it look that bad?” he asked. “I want to look good.”
“Sweetie, you’re handsome as can be. But just remember the right girl wouldn’t care about that. She’d see the amazing man you are inside, from the moment she laid eyes on you. Okay, that’s all I’m going to say about it.” Trista zipped her lips then slid the invisible key into her dress pocket.
Whatever impressed women, that’s what he needed to ooze tonight. He considered shoving a pair of socks down his pants but they were already uncomfortably tight. Anyway, Ben knew size wasn’t his problem. How many times had Stefan teased he was going to hurt some poor girl whenever one finally gave him the chance?
A note from Carlene…
Let me just say it now, I love Meet N Greets! I love that Kacey’s Monday spotlight is all about the awesome MNG. And the only reason I’m even lucky enough to be featured today as a Romance Author is owed to the inspiration I’ve received over the years of MEETING AND GREETING!
The inspiration for my Sin Pointe Novel series came about after I had the extraordinary pleasure of hanging out with my favorite band’s security manager. I was treated to a day and night of back stage touring, holding treasured instruments and meeting the guys. I even got to sit on the side of the stage for the opening of their show. All those things were extraordinary and I vowed never to lose the magic of that night. I didn’t know exactly how I was going to do that…
Well one way I discovered was by continuing to get out of the house and meet more inspirational people. I mean to tell you if there was an author whose books I loved, I made sure to get to their book signing. When a favorite indie film came to town with a festival, I went and met the director who’d traveled all over the world just to bring awareness to their project. If there was a singer whose words had touched my heart, I waited in long lines after the show just to thank them and pick up their cd. I attended Comic Con San Diego for the first time where I learned that sometimes you get in a line so long you have no idea where it ends. But at the end of that line are legends like Chevy Chase so it’s worth it when you get to shake hands. Perhaps the most frightening yet fulfilling and special was attending my first library talk as an author where I got to meet fabulous romance readers who were interested in what I had to say.
Yep, I can honestly say that I owe my title of Romance Author to the simple act of wiping a slightly nervous and clammy hand on my pants before sticking it out to the stranger in front of me and saying hello.
(I’m doing that right now as a matter of fact.)
Now that we’re not strangers anymore, I wish you many Happy Mondays topped off with hours and hours of inspired romance reading. Thanks for having me, Kacey!
So tell me, what inspiring person would you love to meet? I’d love to hear about it.
