An Alien to Love Book Blast ~ Top 10 Things I Love About Canada from @JSubject #SciFi #Giveaway #1NS

An Alien to Love Book Blast Banner

TOP TEN THINGS I LOVE ABOUT CANADA

Today is not only my release day, it’s also four years since I was first published, and Canada Day. For those who don’t know, I am Canadian, so today is special in so many ways. Since two of my stories take place in the capital of Canada, and my host is also Canadian, I thought I’d share ten things I love about my country.

  1. Weather – There is always something for everyone to love and complain about.
  2. Flag – It’s different than others, which I like.
  3. Layout of the country – Most of the population lives in the southern part of the country, along the US border. If you want to get away from the congestion and immerse yourself in the wilderness, head north. Just not in winter, as you may get stuck there for a while.
  4. Music – There is such a wonderful variety to choose from. Of course, there is Celine Dion and Shania Twain, but also Hedley, Our Lady Peace, Kiesza, Chantal Kreviazuk, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Nelly Furtado, Lights, Sarah McLachlan, Rush, The Guess Who, and so many more.
  5. Canadian Pride – Gets more prevalent every year.
  6. Humour – Some of the best comedians are/were Canadian ==> Jim Carey, Mike Meyers, John Candy, Russell Peters, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Norm Macdonald, Howie Mandel, Leslie Nielson, Seth Rogan, Eugene Levy, Phil Hartman.
  7. Free health care – Okay, we pay for it in our taxes, but there is no big bill to pay when we leave the hospital.
  8. Freedom – Our past is not perfect, but we are all now free. Even gay marriage is allowed across the country.
  9. Friendliness – We really are a friendly bunch, not always, but most of the time.
  10. Canadian animals – Who doesn’t like the polar bear, loon, moose, and the beaver? They are even on our coins. Okay, the Canadian Goose is the exception. They hold all of the Canadian meanness.

Excerpt From Celestial Seduction:

She stood in front of him then and held out her hands. His black eyes met hers as he wrapped her hands in his. “You’re okay with what I told you?”

“No, but I’m trying to stay open-minded.” She tried to keep her hands from shaking even as she showed him she could handle the information. “I don’t feel like you want to hurt me though.”

He lightly squeezed her hands, a smile forming on his lips. “I would never bring you harm.”

Lifting one hand up, she gently placed it on the side of his face. “Will you show me what you really look like? I can see your real eyes, but I want to see the rest.”

“You won’t run away?” She winced seeing all of the confidence he’d had at the beginning of the night gone, but it made her trust him even more. “Whatever you do, please don’t scream.”

“I promised to stay the entire night, didn’t I? And don’t worry, I don’t scream unless someone sneaks up on me, or if I see a spider. You don’t look like a spider, do you?” The very thought sent a chill through her body.

He smiled, some of his confidence back while his human image flickered for a few seconds before completely disappearing. Unsure what to expect, she tried not to judge until she’d set eyes on his entire figure. Long, spindly fingers intertwined with hers. He tried to let go, but she held them tight. His body appeared taller and leaner than before. She saw the same black eyes, a less prominent nose and barely visible ears. His hair became jet black and appeared longer and curlier than before. Underneath luminescent scales, his skin shone a light blue.

“So, what do you think?” His mouth quirked, revealing his uncertainty.

Except for their color, his lips were the only thing that didn’t change. She leaned towards him, wondering if they would still feel the same. She had to stand on the tips of her toes to reach him, but wrapping her arms around his neck helped. The feel of his skin surprised her. Perhaps he didn’t have scales, but the pattern lay beneath his skin.

He’s beautiful.

THE COMPLETE UNDERGROUND SERIES @jsubject #boxset #99cents

The Complete Underground series price bannerBook Title: The Complete Underground Series
Publisher: Decadent Publishing Company, LLC
Date Published: February 24, 2015
ISBN: 978-1-61333-784-4
Genre(s): Science Fiction Romance, Futuristic Romance, Dystopian Romance, GLBT Romance
Heat Rating: 4 flames – frequent love scenes  that are explicit and described using graphic and direct language
Page Count: 162

Blurb:  In the future, deception runs deep and betrayal can come from anyone. Will the rebels defeat Planet Core and love freely again, or end up fighting for their lives?

  • What’s your book about?

The Underground series is about a group of rebels who band together to bring down the corporation, Planet Core, that runs the city. They are fighting for their freedom to live and love.

  • Where did you get the idea for this book?

The first story in the series, Never Gonna Let You Go, was inspired by a story I started in my high school Science Fiction English class. It’s changed a lot since the original, though. And Earth 2, a television show I watched as a kid may have inspired this story a bit, too.

  • What traits and other tidbits do you share with your main character?

That’s a difficult question. There are six main characters in this series, and I share different personality traits with each of them. Loyalty, and standing up for what I believe is right would be two main things I share with many of them.

  • Did any of your inspiration for this book originate in your real life experiences? The Complete Underground series by Jessica E. Subject_500x750

I wouldn’t say my own experiences, but the continuous fight I see many face for equality.

  • Does your book take place in a specific region that would make people take an interest?

The Underground series takes place in the future. While it is very different from our own world, there are some beliefs, flora, and fauna that resembles the way things are now.

  • Do you have another project in the works? If so, what is it?

I have several projects in the works at the moment. I’m writing an F/F space academy story (still untitled) for an anthology that will be out later this year. I’ve also started the third story in my Alien Next Door series, Alien Attraction, plan to finish Always Her Wingman, which I started last year, as well as write the first story in my Alien Generations series, a series about three different generations of female aliens living on Earth.

Excerpt
“Tonight went well.” Will Garrison slumped onto a chair and stared across the empty cavern. All the inhabitants of the Underground safe houses had already returned to their rooms. Other members of the rebellion to the main headquarters under the city. The festive party had provided a temporary reprieve from what was to come.

Tim Harris stood behind him. “Yes, I’d say the evening was a success. The weddings reminded people what we’re fighting for.” He dug his thumbs into Will’s tense back muscles.

He groaned. “God, that feels good.” For the first time in days, he had a minute to sit and rest his aching body. This quiet moment with his lover offered an occasion to fulfill other needs as well. He wished he had more time with Tim, more instances to satisfy his desires, complete his soul. Only a few knew the extent of their relationship, but Tim wasn’t around enough for people to catch them in each other’s arms. After tomorrow, Will planned to tell the world how much he loved Tim.

“You need to relax.” Tim kissed the top of his head. “The leader of the rebellion needs to be in top form.”

“You’re just as much a part of this as I am.” Everything would go down the next day. All of their plans would be put into action at dawn, he and Tim each leading a different team. And by sundown, they’d make sure Benson Malock paid for all the lives he’d ruined and ended. Planet Core would no longer be under his control.

“I still wish you would take a larger group with you, especially Jacobs and Edwards. They just returned from Airondelle, traveled through the portals.”

He sighed, not wanting to have the argument again. They’d made their plans, instructed everyone where to go and what to do. “I know, but I need to keep my party small. You’re supposed to be the distraction so we can sneak in the back door. The more people you have, the better.”

“I only hoped….” Tim tensed behind him, suddenly still.

Will twisted around, grasping his hands. “Don’t worry about tomorrow. Everything will happen exactly as we’ve planned. In the evening, we’ll be celebrating again. Our victory.” He wrapped his arms around Tim, kissing his hard lips. A moan escaped, hunger rushing through his veins.

“But let’s forget about that for tonight.” He needed to be reminded of his purpose for fighting, too. Freedom. Freedom for the people, and freedom to love whomever he wanted.

Tim stroked the front of his pants. He hardened under his touch, aching with need. Bulge pressing against an open palm, Will craved the warm physique of his lover. So much time had passed since they’d last been intimate. Even with Tim’s return from Airondelle as their medic three days earlier, they’d had no time alone, due to their hasty preparations to attack Planet Core. His intense longing left him vulnerable, thinking unclearly. He needed a release to purge his mind, regain focus. And by the hard lines on his lover’s face, so did Tim.

Gripping the edges of the cotton material, he pulled the medic’s tunic over his head and untied the rope holding his pants up, releasing his thick sex. A deep grunt echoed through the room. He ran his hands down Tim’s strong arms, across the hardened planes of his chest. A figure any man would be jealous of, and one he never wanted to stop touching. “God, I’ve missed you.”

Pressing against his lush mouth, he sucked in his bottom lip. Tim’s erection pushed on his own. Sweet heavens. He longed to spin him around, shove him against the wall, and fuck him until he burst. Instead, he dropped to his knees and gripped his lover’s cock, running his thumb along the slick slit.

Tim quivered under his touch. “And I’ve missed you, too.” He leaned back, thrusting his stiff dick toward him.

Teasing his swollen head with his tongue, Will tasted his lover’s salty fluid. A flavor he could never get enough of. And after they took down Planet Core the next day, he could have his fill whenever he wanted. He wouldn’t have to hide his love for another man.

Gripping his lover’s velvety flesh, he swallowed him whole.

Excerpt:
He released her on the threshold of her bedroom and turned to leave. The violence in his moves hit like a splash of cold water on her senses, and the certainty slid home that she couldn’t trust him. Something told her he lied as naturally as he breathed. And he had a mistress…

“She made you her bitch, didn’t she?”

The question hurtled from her mouth before she could think it out. Too late, though—she’d have to see it through. Also high time he came clean with her.

He didn’t turn. “You’re out of your mind.”

“Am I? No wonder, since you ply me with so many drugs!” She’d add oil to the fire, but she had a feeling restraint wasn’t something that featured high on her list of priorities when she got riled up.

He whirled around, and she saw him move as if someone had pushed a slow-motion button. Somehow, she should be afraid, but she wasn’t. He didn’t faze her, not his erect stance, or the fury evident on his face. What a change from the usual detachment. Had she hit a sensitive nerve?

“No one made me her bitch, Millie. It’s been a long time since we’ve been husband and wife in the carnal sense, you and me.”

Her gut told her some truth lurked in his statement. Hallelujah. She needed more, though. Why the sham of their marriage, then?

“Why?”

He gave a bitter snort and laughed. “You don’t want to know.”

She did. “What happened?”

“I don’t want to go there.” He turned to leave.

But she couldn’t let him go, not after he’d started to open up, if only a little. She ran to him, as fast as her still-sluggish body could, and caught up with him in the doorway of his bedroom, clasping his wrist to force him to stop.

“What happened?” she again questioned him.

“If you want a new start for us, you wouldn’t ask that.”

He didn’t shrug off her hand, so she stood her ground. “Tell me.”

When she insisted, he did throw her hand off, and she jerked from the sudden movement. Her insides shook when he hit his clenched fists against the wall. The reverberation along the panel rocked the glass vase on the nearby demi-console propped against the silk-lined wall, and it tumbled to shatter on the parquet.

“You want the truth? I’ll give it to you.”

A sliver of unease slid into her heart, and for once, she questioned her judgment. Would it be a good thing, to know? Wasn’t ignorance better?

“The bloody truth, Amelia, is that you were on the Côte d’Azur while I stayed back here. I thought you went to the film festival in Cannes, but you’d scampered miles away from there.”

He paused, as if for emphasis, and her unease snowballed into dread.

“You’d found a comfy spot on a yacht off the coast of Nice. A yacht that exploded because of a bomb, leaving you for dead, while the intended target escaped.” He let a few seconds elapse in silence. “Will you ask why you were on board that yacht in the first place?”

She wanted to shake her head “no,” but she couldn’t. She needed to hear this, however unsettling it would prove to be.

“You were there because someone invited you to have a good time on board their friend’s yacht.” He took a step forward, backing her against the wall. “That someone, Millie, was your lover.”

This couldn’t be true. She wasn’t someone who cheated. She couldn’t be. “Fuck you, Peter.”

The sting of his palm striking her cheek forced the breath out of her lungs as she reeled from the violence. How dare he hit her? Reflexively, she struck back and connected with his face, the back of her hand a hard blow to his mouth, her diamond ring splitting his lip.

He brought one hand up and used his thumb to wipe the blood trickling down the side of his chin. Without another word, he turned on his heels and went into his bedroom.

But she wasn’t done with him, not yet. Not by a long shot. “Why did you stay with me, then, if I’d taken another man to my bed? Why the whole make-believe setup now?”

She followed him, but one step inside the bedroom and her instincts rose to the highest alert. Something very bad was about to happen. She froze with the insight as sounds of a cabinet door closing in the bathroom reached her ears. She should turn tail and run, back to her room where she’d slide the bolt and turn the key so Peter couldn’t get to her.

But she wasn’t fast enough. She still found herself where she stood when he re-entered the bedroom, something in his hand. She didn’t know what, but it would spell her doom.

Run.

She turned and rushed to the corridor. His footsteps accelerated behind her. Two feet from the door to her deliverance, his arm wrapped tight around her neck and he pulled her roughly to him, his hand clutching her upper arm in a vise-like grip. He was so much bigger than her…

Her first instinct told her to fight, yet, the more she squirmed, the tighter his stranglehold got.

Take a few steps forward, gather momentum, and hit the wall, feet flat. In the same move, twist your torso to the side and hit hard with the elbow.

She had no time to ponder where the certainty of that thought came from or how the sound of the deep, male voice addressing her crystallized in her mind. She tried to do as the voice inside her head told her to, but she wasn’t fast enough. The sharp prick of a needle in her neck made her cry out. She howled with misery and defeat when the stinging release of the drug Peter injected into her burnt through her muscles.

Her body went progressively limp, but she heard the words he whispered in her ear.

“Because you were always meant to be mine,” he said in a low growl thrumming with possession and spite.

Then the darkness claimed her, and she sagged as its clawing fingers ripped at her consciousness.

About The Author:
Author, editor, smitten wife, in-over-her-head mum to a tween boy, best-buddy stepmum to a teenage lad, bookaholic, lover of all things fluffy & pink, chronic shoeholic, incompetent ProfilePichousewife desperate to channel Nigella Lawson (and who’ll prolly always fail at making domestic goddess status)…

Zee hails from the multicultural, rainbow-nation island of Mauritius, in the southern Indian Ocean, where she grew up on the figurative fence—one side had her ancestors’ Indian and Muslim culture; the other had modernity and the global village. When one day she realised she could dip her toes into both sides without losing her integrity, she found her identity.

This quest for ‘finding your place’ is what she attempts to bring in all her stories, across all the genres she writes. Her heroines represent today’s women trying to reconcile love, life, & relationships in a melting pot of cultures, while her heroes are Alpha men who often get put back into their rightful place by the headstrong women she writes. Love is always a winner in her stories, though; that’s a given.
