ahlr-ipad

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Political Thriller

Description:

She has no idea what she’s doing. Loose cannons never hit their targets.

And they take out plenty of collateral damage.

Four years ago Lindsay experienced the unspeakable right before me, and I couldn’t stop them.

But that’s all changed now.

When her father, Senator Bosworth, contacted me to ask — demand — that I protect her, it was a second chance. A shot at redemption.

An opportunity to right an unspeakable wrong.

Controlling Lindsay as she seeks her revenge on the monsters who hurt her won’t be hard.

Containing my own out-of-control feelings for Lindsay and keeping up this ruse of cold-blooded distance will be.

Even harder than admitting to her what really happened that night four years ago.

It turns out I don’t have to, though.

Someone else did it for me.

And I’ll make sure they regret it.

A Harmless Little Ruse is the second in this political thriller/romantic suspense trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine. This series includes:

A Harmless Little Game (Now available)

A Harmless Little Plan (release date December 13, 2016)

Excerpt:

I wake up to an empty bed.

It’s not mine.

Lindsay’s gone.

I can feel a change in the air. I jump to my feet, instantly alert, blood pumping to arms and legs that are battle-ready. Her bedroom room smells like lavender and beeswax, mingled with the hot scent of sex. I swear her heat still lingers on the sheets. The ceiling fan is still, the room crackling with silence.

I grab my gun belt and —

What the hell?

My weapon is missing.

Gun’s gone.

Lindsay’s gone.

Oh, shit.

She didn’t?

She did.

“Gentian,” I bark as I shove my earpiece in. “Where’s Lilac?” Lilac’s her code name.

“With you,” he responds.

“Negative.”

Dead air.

“Gentian?”

“I don’t know, sir. No one’s seen her. Last we knew, she was locked in her bedroom with you.”

No trace of irony. No hint of teasing. If he had even one whiff of either, he’d have his ass handed to him.

And he knows it.

“She’s gone, Gentian. Find her.”

“Yes, sir.”

The instant flurry of activity in the house matches my organs. They rearrange themselves inside me as I assess the situation, which is pretty fucking simple.

Lindsay stole my gun and ran away.

Doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Last night was the first time in four damn years that I slept. Actual REM sleep. The night those bastards tortured us was the first night of my new life.

A life without sleep.

And last night?

I slept like someone who had finally come home.

“Jesus,” I mutter to myself. “Great job, Drew. She totally snowed you.”

I have to hand it to Lindsay. She fooled me. I believed her act the entire time. She managed to outwit us all.

Damn smart woman.

Damn dangerous, too.

Special force man with the assault rifle gun on dark background with smoke

Summary:

Hot Hollywood Nights… Box office breaker, Natalie Warner might be the Princess of Tinseltown, but she’s a starlet with a bad attitude, a frightening past, and a stalker. Former SEAL Beck Tatum has a mission and no patience for Hollywood bad girls. He must protect Natalie and stay out of her bed–both missions seem nearly impossible.

Natalie Warner can’t ignore the risk any longer. A star on the rise, her latest film is on track to be the biggest box office breaker of the summer but Natalie isn’t safe. Someone is after her. Could it be her angry addict father or her mother who always wanted to be a star herself? What about her ex-boyfriend who just did time? The Studio refuses to ignore the threat and forces Natalie to take on a bodyguard, but that bodyguard comes in the shape of rugged, irresistible Beck Tatum, because whoever is after Natalie isn’t going to stop until someone makes them.

A question, wrapped in a riddle, Beck Tatum doesn’t know what part of the government he worked for before he lost his memory or what exactly his mission was. He can remember that he loved and that he lost that woman as well as his memories on that final mission. Now with a second chance, he’s assigned to protect a high-value asset. Rich and entitled but yet kind and vulnerable, Natalie Warner isn’t the spoiled rich woman Beck expected. But falling for her would put her life on the line and Beck isn’t about to lose anything else.

Excerpt:

Beck welcomed darkness. The night was a cloak of anonymity that provided him with a freedom the daylight never did. When he chose to be, Beck was soundless in his movements. Swift and stealthy under the cover of night, he could move before anyone knew of his presence. You didn’t get nineteen confirmed kills without embracing silence.

He entered Natalie’s bedroom. Moonlight glanced through the window and shone on her face. Her dark hair lay like liquid night on a pillow. Those perfect lips barely parted. Her sleep was peaceful. Restful. A thought . . . a memory . . . a moment from before, with Marisol, flashed through Beck’s mind like lightning in a summer sky, then was gone.

Natalie was tough. She might appear like a sexy girly-girl, but with all the treachery she’d endured from her family and friends, she’d developed a thick hide to survive and thrive.

Beck circled the room. Tested the locks on the French doors that led to the balcony. Her room was on the second floor, but if a person was determined they’d find a way to get inside. He scanned the bathroom. Pretty damn swank. Next was the walk-in closet, which was bigger than his last apartment and filled with more shit than one of those fancy-ass high-end department stores.

He circled back to the bedroom and stopped beside Natalie’s bed. She had no reason to trust Beck. All the people in her life had failed her when she’d trusted them. Why would she expect anything different from him?

Because Beck wouldn’t fail. Not again. Not this time.

“What are you doing in my room?”

“My job.”

Spotlight ~ Out Now ~ The Persecution of the Wolves by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) #PNR #thriller #shifter @EvernightPub

wolvesteaser01

Blurb:

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam, Derbyshire all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and have their reasons for keeping quiet. But this secrecy comes at a cost—the brothers can’t risk romantic the-persecustiob-of-wolves-evernightpublishing-2016-smallpreview-copyentanglements.

Then, at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be a large animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts about who—or what—could have done it.

As the brothers fight to clear their names, things are complicated by unexpected opportunities to indulge their lust. Isaac is intrigued by a handsome newcomer to the village, and a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

Can the men prove their innocence, or is their centuries-old secret about to be revealed to the outside world, bringing their carefully-crafted existence crashing down around their ears?

*****

Excerpt:

As Matthew and Isaac Adams opened the front door to their house, the telephone started ringing. Matthew sighed. “Typical. No rest for the wicked. I’ll answer it, you go and get ready for work.”

Isaac nodded and headed off to do as his brother advised. Matthew, the older of the two, walked toward the ringing phone and snatched it off the hook. Then, remembering that the person on the other end of the line would have no idea what a rough night he’d just had, he made the effort to inject some politeness into his tone.

“Hello? Adams residence.” Isaac had told him time and time again that the last part about the residence was old-fashioned, that people didn’t say that anymore, but Matthew couldn’t seem to shake it.

“Hello, Matthew? It’s Richard.” The village vicar’s voice, even though he’d only spoken four words, sounded strained, almost panicked. “You boys just get back?”

“Yeah, a moment ago. Why, what’s up?”

“I, uh… I got a call. A dead sheep has been found up on the moor. Not just dead. Mutilated. Like a wild animal attack.”

An unpleasant feeling wormed its way under Matthew’s skin and his stomach flipped. “Oh?” He paused, then figured he had nothing to gain by not saying the next words he wanted to. “You don’t think it was us?”

The vicar’s gasp was instant, one of genuine surprise. “Lord, no! Absolutely not. I just phoned to let you know and I was wondering if you’d come up there with me and take a look? You and Isaac are probably more qualified than anyone else in the village to tell what did this.”

“Isaac has to work, he just went to get ready. But yes, I’ll come up. I’ll let my brother know where I’m going, then I’ll be straight over. Are you at the rectory?”

“Yes. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Thanks, Matthew. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Matthew hung up the phone with another sigh. The horrible feeling that had crept under his skin and taken over his gut seemed as if it was there to stay, and it was never a good sign. The vicar’s news was surprising, yes, but he also had an inkling that it was going to spell trouble, or at the very least, inconvenience for him and his brother.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his jangling nerves, Matthew walked upstairs and toward his brother’s bedroom. The door was closed. He knocked. “You decent?”

“Yeah,” Isaac replied, “close enough.”

Stepping into the room, Matthew looked at his brother. He was half-dressed, ready for his shift at the doctor’s surgery, where he was a general practitioner. “Sorry to interrupt, mate, but that was Richard on the phone. They’ve found a mutilated sheep up on the moor, and he’s asked me to go with him to check it out.”

Isaac paused with one arm pushed into his shirtsleeve. “He doesn’t think—”

Matthew cut him off. “No. He was quite adamant about that. He just thought we’d be able to help figure out what did it. I explained that you’ve got to go to work, though. I’m going to head across there now and go up with him.”

“I could phone in, let them know I’ll be late.”

Matthew held up his hand. “There’s no need, brother. Relax. Just go to work and help the sick people. I’ll let you know what—if anything—I find out.”

Opening his mouth, then closing it again, Isaac seemed to have thought better of whatever he was going to say. He continued to dress. “All right, I will. But make sure you let me know what happens. Send me a text or something, and I’ll phone you as soon as I have a gap in between patients.”

Matthew grimaced. He hated texting. Hated mobile phones, actually. Technology was one of the things he disliked most about modern-day life, though he realized it was a necessary evil. It solved as many problems for him and his brother as it created, so he dealt with it as best he could. Fortunately, Isaac had always had an affinity with computers and phones, so he tutored Matthew.

“Yeah, all right. I’d better go and find my phone first then, eh?”

Smirking at his brother’s rolled eyes, he left the room and headed for his own bedroom, where he thought he’d left the device the previous night before he and Isaac had headed for the caves. Immediately spotting the mobile phone—which Isaac often made a point of telling him was akin to a brick—he grabbed it, stuffed it into his pocket, and made his way downstairs.

Retrieving his keys from the hook by the front door, he called up to his brother. “I’m going now, Isaac. I’ll see you after my shift at the pub. I’m working until closing time.”

“Okay. Don’t forget to keep me posted!”

“I won’t.” As if he could forget. The dead sheep was going to be a big thing, he just knew it. The vicar might not think he and his brother had anything to do with it, but some of the other villagers might. When there was no proof either way, just his and Isaac’s word, it was understandable, really. Since he and his brother changed into wolves every full moon, it was a natural conclusion to draw. Particularly since normal wolves had been extinct in England for over five hundred years.

Excerpt from Kiss of Deceit by Patricia A. Rasey #Suspense #Bikers #ebook @PatriciaRasey

KOD“With seemingly effortless skill, this author has created an original, keenly suspenseful and deeply entertaining thriller that will make your heart skip and your pulse race to dangerous levels.” ~Mayra, EbooksNBytes

Blurb: Marcus “Snake” Gallego lives in the fast lane. Play hard, ride fast, die young. But nothing seems to touch him, not until his faithless wife turns up dead, and a pretty little detective slams his head against a bar, cuffing his hands behind his back.

LeAnne McVeigh has a murderer to catch and “Snake” is a prime suspect according to her fiance, the County prosecutor. She fights her growing attraction to the biker, but the pull is too strong to ignore and more than that, he proves to be her friend in adversity.

Please note: This is a re-release of Patricia’s novel originally published in 2001.

Excerpt:
“Marcus Gallego.”

Marcus’s ominous form turned slowly on his bar stool, then rose to his full six-foot-four height, glaring down on LeAnne McVeigh. His eyes, dark as night, bore something akin to evil.

Clearing her throat, she continued. “You are under arrest for the murder of your wife, Jillian Gallego. You have the right to remain silent. If you give up the right…”

Her gaze swept the bar as her voice went through the motion of reading him his rights. She had done this many times before and could probably do it in her sleep. Except, this time was different—this time the man was strong enough to take off her head, and good-looking enough to sweep her off her feet.

Marcus simply chuckled, mocking her. The sound, deep and rumbling, seemed to travel from the soles of his worn leather boots up through the broad expanse of his chest.

Of course, the two deputies accompanying her could have done this, saving her the trouble, if not the embarrassment. But she had wanted to be in on the arrest. This was her case.

Besides, the deputies were here to watch her back. LeAnne knew better than to enter a bikers’ bar alone to arrest one of their kind, and certainly would not have dared, had the bar been full.

“Place both hands on the bar, Gallego,” she instructed, motioning for one of the deputies to pat him down.

He simply crossed his arms over his chest and grinned. “You got the wrong man, lady.”

LeAnne clenched her teeth. Sure, she was a woman, but she would be damned before she would allow him to think her any less of an adversary than the deputies accompanying her.

“Hands on the bar, Gallego,” she repeated, taking a step forward. The two deputies fidgeted, obviously nervous at her putting herself within the tall man’s reach.

His jaw twitched as he seemed to weigh his options, then finally did as she instructed. Tom, the larger of the two deputies, kicked Gallego’s feet farther apart, then frisked him. Tom laid Gallego’s change, keys, and wallet on the bar as murmurs from the other patrons increased.

Tom stepped back. LeAnne grasped Marcus’s wrist, wrenching his taut arm behind his back. She slapped the cuff around it, the sharp clack easily carrying through the now-hushed room.

“What the…” he gritted between his clenched teeth as he jerked on his arm, nearly tearing it from her clasp.

But with a strength someone her size could not seemingly possess, she pulled his arm back behind him, pushed his chest down on the polished but scarred bar, and cuffed his wrists together.

“Don’t push me today, Gallego,” she hissed. “I sure as hell am not in the mood.” Then snatching a fistful of his worn brown leather, she jerked him upright. “You’re going downtown.”

“What about my bike?”

LeAnne wanted to laugh. Here she was hauling his sorry hide to the station for the murder of his wife and the only thing he could think about was his precious Harley.

“Not my problem now, is it? Get someone else to take it home,” she stated in a stern voice, daring him to argue.

She knew she posed no threat to a man of his caliber, but with two armed men accompanying her, he might think twice before harming her.

He nodded his dark head at a salt and pepper-haired biker with a beard reaching to his chest. A beer-belly parted his vest as the sides of his rear spilled off the stool. This man held no similarities with the one she held in her grip; she doubted Marcus Gallego sported even an ounce of fat.

“You take my bike home, Rebel,” he stated more than asked. “Lock up my house—feed the dogs.”

“No problem, buddy.” The man smiled a missing-toothed grin. “Just need your keys.”

Marcus turned his head to look down on LeAnne, a sneering smile on his face. LeAnne’s heart flipped in her chest. His smile could melt the coldest of hearts; his gaze could turn any warm-bodied female’s insides into a pile of quivering mush. This man could charm the skin off a snake.

“My keys…” he tugged on his arms. “…Would you mind?”

LeAnne grasped them from the surface of the bar and tossed them to the gray-haired biker, who caught them in mid-air.

“You know I would have enjoyed this even more had you taken the keys from my pocket yourself, sweetheart,” Gallego said, his smile growing to full-blown. “We’re among friends here; no reason to be shy.”

Hoots and hollers grew in intensity as the bikers seemed to mock the law’s presence. Heat traveled up her neck and warmed her face. The best plan of action was to get Marcus Gallego out of his habitat before the scene turned ugly.

LeAnne raised a brow and grinned at the formidable opponent. “Don’t flatter yourself, Gallego. If I had the notion to reach into your pocket, I doubt there’d be much there to find.”

Publishing Journey:
“’When I grow up, I want to write books,” I confided to my fifth grade teacher, who encouraged me. So I wrote, and kept writing until I graduated high school.

Then life happened, and I dropped out of college. I shelved my dream to become a working stiff. But no matter how many hours I toiled behind office desks, the drive…the motivation…to write, to create, gnawed at my spirit and refused to die.

After more years than I’m willing to admit, I finally got serious. I attended writing classes in college, and online. I joined workshops and critique groups, entered contests, and submitted manuscripts. But as rejections piled up, I began to question the reality of my goal to be published.

Then I heard about Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales Line, and I was intrigued. I decided to accept their challenge to put a different twist on a Grimm’s fairytale. Because nearly everything I wrote was a little twisted anyway, I was in. I plotted and wrote, re-plotted and re-wrote, edited, had the story beta-read, and revised some more.

Few things in this world are scarier than hitting SEND. No sooner had I sent it off when negative self-talk began: My story sucks. What the heck was I thinking? I wonder if I can retract my entry.

A couple of weeks later, an email from Decadent showed up in my inbox. My stomach dropped. Too soon to be good news. Good Lord, it must really stink to be rejected this quickly.

I finally got the nerve to open the email. The message was short. Two sentences. Another rejection, I suspected.

Expecting the usual “thanks, but no thanks,” I breathed in a lung-full of courage, chewed on my bottom lip, and read the first sentence. “We have had an opportunity to consider your manuscript and…” I stopped reading. Oh no, here we go again. “…would like to offer a contract.” Huh? Hold on a minute. What was that? I blinked and read it again. And again. My heart sprouted wings and took flight. Before I shouted my good fortune from the rooftops, I decided to check it out with an author friend. Perhaps I’d misinterpreted the sentence.

I forwarded her the email and asked if it was what I thought it was. She verified…it was.

The editor’s email continued, “If you are still interested…” Still interested? Heck, yeah. I emailed her back, accepting the contract.

Then the rollercoaster ride began.

Seeing my book cover for the first time was an incredible experience. I’m on a cover! Previously, my stories had been published in anthologies, but none had my name on the cover. Yet, there it was. The cover. I stared at it. Gushed over it. Took pictures of it, and admired it. I called and emailed family and friends, “I’m on a cover.”

Blurb:

After Haley Monroe’s estranged husband drops dead, she discovers he left her with a whole lot of debt and most of her family heirlooms missing. Too bad the only person who can help sort through the mess and clear her name is her late husband’s attorney…her only one-night stand and a man she never thought she’d see again.

Attorney Eli Libertini jumps at the chance to help Haley clear up the financial mess. He’d like nothing more than to reconnect with his hookup from spring break ten years ago—the woman he’s never been able to forget.

Thrown together in a dark fairytale adventure, the twosome uncovers a web of hidden heirlooms, ghostly encounters, and mysterious storage units about to be auctioned. They’ll have to forget the past in order to regain their shared passion and have a future.

Excerpt:

“Haley. Haley Monroe,” a man shouted. His deep voice sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she’d heard it before. “Haley! Fancy meeting you here.”

Curious who had called her name, she turned to face the voice.

The man revealed himself. Eli Libertini—as in Libertini and Farthing—her husband’s lawyer. Eli was tall, dark, and ruthless. The armor on his knight’s costume shone like silver in the sunlight.

The man with him wore a monk’s robe. He stood nearly a half-foot shorter than Eli’s six-two and had at least twenty-five pounds of pure muscle on the lawyer.

If Eli hadn’t represented her husband during their bitter negotiations, she might consider him attractive. After all, she’d thought so ten years ago. And he hadn’t changed much during that time. He still wore his dark hair past his shoulders—shoulders much broader than she remembered. He’d even managed to grow taller and fill out very nicely, thank you very much.

But their heated exchange during the legal proceedings had left a hostile taste in her mouth. And nothing, not even his wide, single-dimpled smile, could erase the memory of the hurtful, untrue allegations he’d hurled at her.

“Fancy indeed,” she huffed.

Adult Excerpt:

“Straddle me, sugar,” he said in a sandpaper voice, all grit.

Willing to go where she knew she shouldn’t tread, she did what he asked, throwing one leg over his lap, knees sinking into the leather cushion on either side of his denim clad thighs. His hands went to her hips. Slid down farther, where he stopped. His fingertips touched her flesh. Using his thumbs, he stroked the front of her thighs, undoing her. Shivers traversed her arms and legs. Her sex pulsed.

He inched her skirt up, working until the fabric bunched around her waist. When cool air struck the back of her thighs, one side of his mouth quirked up. He appeared pleased with himself for exposing her panties.

“I’ll give you exactly what you crave,” he said and ripped the thong from her body.

Tiffany sucked in a breath. He threw the tattered silk to the floor with his right hand while flicking her clit ring with the forefinger of his left. “Nice adornment.” He tugged on her piercing, giving her the right amount of pressure. “But you need me to scratch your itch, don’t you, baby?”

She’d come too far to lie about what she needed now. Nodding, she whispered,

“Harder.”

He chuckled, and the sound was a flashpoint of sensation added to the slow stroke of the fingers he’d slipped between her crease.

She leaned forward, hand resting on the top of the sofa by his head, and kissed him. While their tongues tangled, he rubbed her, his other hand going to her hair where he tugged the clip, releasing the long strands. They tumbled down her back in time with his palm curling around the base of her neck, claiming her.

Oh, she liked the way he took possession. Everything feminine inside her needed the pure maleness of him.

Tiffany nibbled at his bottom lip, pulling scant inches from his mouth. “You make me burn,” she admitted.

“The feeling is mutual,” he said and plunged a finger inside of her.

“Ahh, yeah,” she uttered her approval.

He shoved his finger deeper. “You’re so wet.”

“Yes.”

Her hand went to his bulging crotch. She squeezed him through his jeans. He groaned. With nimble fingers, she unbuttoned his fly, freeing his thick cock from the denim. When the heavy head rested in her palm, she smiled. He was fantastic, and she’d known from past experience he’d be commando.

Wrapping her fingers around the base of his superb erection, she began to pump him.

“Good?”

“Hell, yes,” he said and fingered her in earnest, inserting another. His thumb pressed hard against her clitoris, sending heated spikes of sensation through her body.

She moaned, spreading the silken pre-cum leaking from him with her fingertip and licking her lips. Tiffany wanted to taste him. Put her lips over the crown. Skim her mouth along his shaft. Take him down the back of her throat. She swallowed, knowing the feeling when she took him inside her pussy would be even better. She needed to experience her sex stretched over the head of his dick again. The fiery invasion. The awareness of being totally filled when he pressed into her tight channel.

Her chest heaving, she mumbled, “Condom.”

“Sorry, sugar. We’ll have to settle for this,” he said. Declan removed his fingers from her body and tugged her hips down on him before he placed his steel between herfeminine folds. “Slide your sweetness along the length of my cock.”

Oh, God. She was so slick, she easily made the glide up and down, her chest rubbing against his.

In the next instant, he splayed his large hands across her ass, pulling her against him even tighter. This was good, sex without penetration, something she’d never done before, and the delicious sensation had her nipples pebbled hard against the material of her bra, but when he flicked out his tongue, everything got better. She moaned and gave him access to her neck, where he wasted no time and tickled the hollow of her throat before he nipped at the soft flesh with his teeth. She shivered.

“There you go.” The vibration of his deep voice sent a wave of pleasure across thecanvas of her flesh. Every part of her body hungered for his touch. He slapped her ass.

She jumped and lost her rhythm—taken aback. “Faster,” he demanded, and she didn’t have time to consider if she liked the swat or not. He spanked her again. “Move your fine ass.”

She complied, sliding herself up and down. He slapped her ass once more, but this time the sensation sent a buzz to her already-stimulated clit. The joy spreading across her caught— a wildfire.

“Again,” she uttered in a breathy voice.

“Like that, do you?”

God help her, she did.
