Spotlight ~ In Cold Blood by Naomi Clark #PNR #FF #Shifters @naomi_jay @EvernightPub

Hi there! Thanks for having me today and letting me share a bit about my new release, IN COLD BLOOD. This is a spin-off from my Urban Wolf series, set in the same world but featuring new characters. My goal with every entry in the Urban Wolf series is to open the world up a little bit more. SILVER KISS gives us a good, solid starting point with werewolves. BLOOD HUNT introduces vampires. PHANTON FEARS teases the idea of ghosts, and COLD NIGHT MOON gives us fae creatures (or one, at any rate). With IN COLD BLOOD, my idea was that, well, someone had to be noticing all these weird and wonderful creepy beasties. And someone would be keeping notes…

This will tie directly into the plot of the next Urban Wolf book, which will take us back to Ayla and Shannon. The circle of life, etc.

IN COLD BLOOD is the first of a planned trilogy about Phoebe, Aisling, and the Luporum. I already have book 2 mostly planned out (in my head, anyway), but my aim is write that Ayla and Shannon book first. So if you enjoy IN COLD BLOOD, rest assured that there’ll be more from my socially awkward werewolves in love – and the Urban Wolf series in general! – in the future 🙂 Happy reading!

You can find the complete Urban Wolf series, in reading order, at my blog here.

Phoebe Fairley wanted to be a librarian. Somehow, she’s become a vampire hunter. Women are dying across the country and the police are baffled. Phoebe’s just supposed to be gathering information on the deaths, but as the body count mounts, she can’t help but break the rules and get involved. She knows what the killer is—and catching and containing it is vital. If she can persuade the police to believe her, and keep her secretive bosses happy, she stands a chance of capturing a very real, very deadly vampire. Not bad for a werewolf who can’t shapeshift.

Aisling is happy living as a feral wolf. She’s got no time for human affairs, until a mysterious creature attacks her and leaves her in human hands. Now, if she wants her life back, she’ll have to join Phoebe’s hunt. There are just a couple of snags. One, she hates humans. And two, she’s falling hard for Phoebe. With a monster to catch and her own past to protect, will Aisling trust her head or her heart?

Excerpt

The scene inside the barn was surreal. Two big floodlights overhead lit the barn in glaring white. Half the huge space was taken up with sheep, penned off from the drama but still hysterically bleating and milling together. A grizzled man in a tattered dressing gown and
Wellington boots – surely the farmer – leaned into the pen, talking non-stop to the frightened animals. Bales of hay were piled high around the rest of the barn, looking to Phoebe like they might come toppling down any second. They formed a rough arena for the main drama. Two more men held down a naked woman. She thrashed in their grip, tossing her matted red hair and snarling with a viciousness that made Phoebe’s wolf cower. This was their victim, this mad, wild thing?

Spalding hurried over to the farmer and Gibbs ran to the paramedics. They had to be wolves, from the strength they were displaying, but the woman was making them work to keep her still. Phoebe hesitated before following Gibbs – at a distance. Observe, Spalding had said. That was fine. Observing was all she was meant to do. The question was, what exactly was she seeing? The victim of a vampire attack or a feral wolf gone mad? She couldn’t help but lean towards the latter. Perhaps the woman thought the sheep would be easy pickings, but something had gone wrong. Maybe she’d been startled by the farmer or a guard dog. Phoebe had noticed a kennel outside the barn, although there was no sign of a dog now.
As she got closer, she saw the woman’s hands and feet were caked in mud, and there were thin red scratches all over her pale skin. Dried blood on her chest, too, although her endless thrashing made it hard to see where the original wound was. She stopped a few feet away, watching as Gibbs crouched down before the woman and – daringly, Phoebe thought – gripped her chin firmly. She was surprised he didn’t get his fingers bitten off.
The woman growled but couldn’t pull free of Gibbs’ hold. He growled right back, with a force and venom that made Phoebe quake. Did they teach that in training?
For a minute, the pair seemed locked in battle, the woman struggling against all three men in vain while she snarled at Gibbs. He didn’t flinch or loosen his grip, and kept his own domineering growl rumbling on, rising in pitch. The sheep grew more frantic and both
the farmer and Spalding yelled at them with a mixture of anger and desperation. Phoebe felt battered, all the noise and tumultuous emotion like an assault. She wanted to run. She forced herself to stay, watching as Gibbs tried to inflict his will on the woman.
As much as pop culture got muddled with myth, some things were always true, just as much for wolves as humans. Some people were simply more dominant than others. Gibbs’ laid-back, clownish persona was all gone now as he pinned the woman down with both his body and his eyes. Phoebe would have caved already, if she’d even had it in her to resist. The woman, whatever her mental state might be, was not so easily dominated. But after what felt like an age, she slumped, stopped fighting, and went still.

About the Author

Naomi likes writing, perfume, fancy tea, and unfathomable monsters from the dark spaces between the stars, not necessarily in that order. She has been writing stories ever since she learned how to write, but is still trying to master the art of biography writing. When she’s not dealing with werewolves, demons, or sea monsters, she’s hanging out with her cat and probably watching a documentary about Bigfoot. If the cat isn’t available, she’s with her fiancé watching cookery shows and silently plotting her next book.

Ball gowns and bite marks…
Mari Di Bartolo was a witch coming back to her roots in Salem. Juggling work and school, she is a woman on a mission until she is attacked one night after work and left for dead. When Mari is about to step through the veil, she is given a choice-become a vampire or fade away. She chooses life. Nevertheless, it’s not her new Sire that holds Mari’s attention, but the strange and enigmatic Fae with the golden green eyes. Full of mischief and mayhem, the night of the Vampire Ball is upon her and all that glitters may just be her teeth in the moonlight.

Darkness lurks in the shadows…
Fenris is the Captain of the Guard for the Queen of the Dark Court. For centuries he’s secured the barrier between the human world and Faery, part of a Protectorate that keeps humans blissfully ignorant of the beings hidden in their midst. Excerpt from Sanguine Shadows by Erzabet Bishop

Her eyes widened and her lips parted and he caught a glimpse of fang. “I…didn’t know you cared.”

“If I didn’t, why would I have convinced Roark to turn you?” He tugged her closer, the push of her breasts against his chest making it hard to concentrate on mere words. He’d known she was meant for him from the first second he’d seen her but he had to let Roark take her or risk her dying.

“You don’t know me. I was just a girl on the street. A human not worth your consideration.”

Fenris didn’t miss the hurt in her eyes. Perhaps he had been wrong leaving her alone. He’d been convinced he was right letting her assimilate unhindered into her new life. He also couldn’t fault her reasoning. She was right. They had no claim on one another, only an attraction that blazed to life in the most untenable of situations.

But she was wrong on one account. He had noticed her before-just not in a way he might have acted upon. Human and supernatural interaction was forbidden but he was unable to let her die. Not like that.

He wasn’t able to stop thinking about her and hadn’t since that night.

“I did notice you, witchling. How could I not?” He lifted a finger and traced the side of her face, his cock hardening at the moan that slipped unbidden from her lips. “You burn inside of me. Only I couldn’t act. Not until then. But I had to save you. To do anything else…” He let his voice trail off and watched her reaction.

Mari blinked and reached forward, pressing her lips to his. “It’s like a fire, isn’t it? A fire in the blood.”

“Oh Gods, yes.”

Excerpt from Malediction by Erzabet Bishop

Alistair spotted the gorgeous brunette across the room and, when she approached the refreshment table, he followed. For a millisecond he’d taken her for the scrawny woman in the red dress, but on closer inspection he was pleased to note the differences. Same dress, but the way this woman wore it, he was tempted to peel it from her, inch by scrumptious inch.
His pack mate had poured a few bottles of something into the punch and, while it was entertaining to watch some of the guests succumb to the antics of the season, he didn’t
quite feel the same about the sexy female in front of him. This woman would be far more interesting sober, he had a hunch and his predictions usually turned out to be spot on. The markings on her arms intrigued him and he wondered if they covered more of her body. Like tendrils of smoke curling around her flesh, they spiraled around her skin in an unending pattern, giving him the urge to trace every single one and see where it led.
He should be home at Briarwood, but his duties as Beta brought him here to make sure Jessup didn’t get too out of hand. So far the pup had been a bit mischievous, but nothing that would make him worry. Whatever concerns he had melted when he gazed at the beauty in front of him, his animal taking control.
Serious gray eyes winked at him from behind an elegant lacy black mask and he had the urge to peek beneath it to see what she was hiding.
Full lips bowed below the mask, and her mass of dark hair was wound into an up-do that he longed to plunge his fingers into while he explored her mouth with his.
Jesus, Alastair. Get a grip.
His wolf perked up when she’d come into view and his instinct to bed her followed in quick succession. He shook it off with a frown.
One night stands were not his style, especially with women he didn’t know. He had other concerns and, as soon as he made sure Jessup wasn’t going to fuck up and intoxicate half of the wealthier citizens of Salem, he was out of here.
Duncan was still missing and he’d left Laurel in charge in his stead.
But, her eyes. Fuck. They fairly glowed with a power that socked him in the gut as they watched him from behind the mask. When she wet her lips and took her bottom lip between her teeth, he almost lost the battle with himself not to let his beast take over and drag her into the nearest coat closet.
“Are you here with someone?” He cleared his throat, aware of the growl threading through his voice.
“No. Are you?”
“Just a couple of friends. What do you think? Want to end up in a compromising situation with a stranger?” He grinned and, seeing Jessup approach, steered her away from the refreshment table. Alistair wanted her to himself, at least for a little while.
“Seven deadly sins? How about a dance? With my footwork, that could lead towards all kinds of infractions.”
“Hmm.” He swung her into his arms and into the crowd, relishing the sensation of his hand on her lower back. The plunging view offered by her bodice made his body stand at attention and the wolf beneath his skin whined with want. “So, which deadly sin could you possibly have that would sink a guy faster than lust? That dress…”
“These shoes.”
“Oh, but those… those are not a sin. Not at all. In fact, I could look at them all night long.”
“You could, could you?” The woman laughed, deep and sensual.
Her eyes snapped with amusement. “Then you try wearing them.”
“Maybe I will.” He wanted her, and the closer they got, the more obvious it was going to become. He weaved her around the dance floor, her movements matching his. Her perfume and the spicy scent of her hair were making it hard to concentrate. At the look in her eyes, he dragged her back hard against him, his animal wild in his blood.
“Do you want to get out of here?”
“Please.”
 “Let’s get some air.”
Alistair led her out onto the balcony, the twinkle lights flickered making the grounds outside the hotel look enchanted. He had to clear his head.
“Who are you?” Alistair brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“I’m just a girl who needs an escape from reality. How about you?”
“Same here.”
“Just a girl, huh?” The mystery woman smiled.
He gathered her into his arms, letting her feel the full force of his arousal. “I don’t know. I’m not feeling much like a girl right now.”
“No. I didn’t think you were.” She leaned into his embrace, her lips curving up in an inviting smile.
“What’s your name?”
“Bridget. Yours?”
“Alistair.”
“Well, Alistair. It’s nice to meet you. I have one question.”
“What’s that?”
“How long is it going to take for you to kiss me?”
“Time me.” Alistair’s mouth covered hers hungrily and he forced her mouth open with his thrusting tongue. She gasped, trembling within his embrace and he pulled her deeper into the shadows, away from prying eyes.

Spotlight ~ Found in Flames by Rose Wulf #Suspense #Shifters #MustRead @RoseWulfAuthor @EvernightPub

Hello everyone! I’m author Rose Wulf and I’m here today to tell you all about my latest release, Found in Flames! Found in Flames is Book 1.5 in my Night Shadows series, which is set in a world full of vampires, werewolves, witches, and humans called Slayers. This installment focuses on the powerful, sexy Luka Craige – Alpha werewolf with a mission – and unassuming, overworked Joella Harp – a human caught in the crossfire.

wulf

All his life Luka Craige has been haunted by the witch that killed his family. Finally, having chased him across the country to the edge of vampire territory, Luka has his chance at vengeance. But not before his Beta is killed and Luka finds himself protecting a woman he doesn’t know. A woman who arouses him like never before. Could he possibly exact his revenge and find his mate?

A burning body was the last thing Joella Harp expected to find when she rounded the corner. Let alone a body with a man standing over it. After that her droll life becomes a whirlwind of werewolves, wild sex, and deadly fire. The witch wants her dead, she can barely think past her mouthwatering rescuer, and in no time she realizes this adventure could be more than a fantastical memory…. If she’s brave enough.

Exclusive Excerpt:

In hindsight, Joella supposed she should have been a little more specific with her silent prayers. She’d blindly torn through the prickly, disorienting brush, turning at the sound of a sharp, pain-filled yelp, until all of a sudden the pup was within sight. Up against a rock three times his size and holding an injured front paw off the ground. Spots of blood dotted the dirt around her, but she barely noticed them when she realized why he was cowering.

Standing between them was the man she’d last seen in that darkened alley. The witch who’d killed Luka’s friend, the very same witch who now, supposedly, was after her.

“Char,” she breathed, her stomach dropping to her feet. What the hell was she supposed to do now? What chance did she stand against a real life witch?

The boy whimpered again and Joella swallowed heavily. Poor odds or not, if she did nothing the boy would be killed.

“Ah,” Char began with a chilling smile as he slid his dark stare to her. “So you know my name now.”

“Leave him alone,” Joella demanded, fighting to keep her voice stable.

Dark brow lifting with exaggerated curiosity, the witch asked, “Which ‘him’ are we talking about, exactly?” He gestured toward the pup and added, “This one? Or the bigger, angrier one who rescued you last night?”

Both. But the ‘bigger, angrier one’ wasn’t her priority right then. “The boy. Leave the boy alone. Let me take him home.”

Char grinned this time. “Pick one,” he replied. “But choose carefully.”

Thrown, Joella hesitated. He was clearly playing some kind of game, but what was it? What was the catch here?

“You look confused,” Char continued. “I can either leave this one alone,” he said, “or I can let you take him home. Not both.”

“That doesn’t make sense,” she said, her mind still racing to figure out his point before she fell for it.

Char only shrugged and tucked his hands into his pockets.

Infuriated, Joella drew a breath and strode purposefully to the pup. She lifted him as gently as she could considering that he was already probably half-grown. He helped by curling his paws over her shoulder and holding still, for which she was grateful. She didn’t really have the upper-arm strength for this kind of stunt.

“Home it is, then,” Char said with a smirk.

“Actually,” Joella said, glaring at him, “I choose option C. You go straight to hell.”

Char laughed, the sound echoing around them, and shook his head. “How about I bring hell to you? Volvenda ignis.”

Joella paused, just a couple of feet ahead of him. What did he just—? But the answer was already apparent, as bright orange flame shot up from the ground directly in front of her. She stumbled back instinctively, eyes widening as the flame raced out and around, forming a circle around them. Trapping her and the boy inside, inside with Char. The boy whimpered, attempting to nuzzle closer to her, and she couldn’t help but think that she understood. She didn’t want to be there, either.

“What’s it feel like to be a dead girl?” Char asked tauntingly.

Turning to face him for lack of anything better to do, Joella snapped, “I’m not dead yet.”

Char shrugged again. “That’s a technicality. But I can let you breathe a little longer … if you’ll tell me where the wolf den is.”

“No way.” She wasn’t about to sell out Luka’s people, even if some of them would probably not have returned the favor.

Sighing as if greatly inconvenienced, Char lifted his hands out at his sides. “Suit yourself.” The flame surrounding them flared, growing taller as the heat spiked, and for an instant Joella was sure she and the boy-pup in her arms were about to die. And in the next instant she registered the dark brown shape that seemed to have flown through the rising flame, front paws extended and fangs bared with violent intent.

Unfortunately, Char noticed him, too. His eyes immediately widened and he spun, a curse falling from his lips simultaneously.

The wolf—Luka, she was certain, despite that she’d never seen his wolf form—was primed to sink his fangs into Char’s collar, just shy of his throat, when Char’s body burst into ash and embers. The fire immediately snuffed out, thick, dark plumes of smoke rising up to the sky before dissipating on the wind. Luka crash-landed on the ground, skidding to a halt mere inches from Joella’s feet. He shook his head, coughing up ash, before finally looking up at her.

And she was right, it was definitely Luka. She recognized his deep, powerful, captivating eyes. They lost nothing of their allure in his canine form. But more than that, it seemed the scar she’d seen in the cave haunted this form, too. It was stretched, but still curved around his jaw and under his eye. Instead of looking like a scar on flesh, though, it was a flowing trail of furless skin, a trail, she realized, that wound down his throat and right front leg. It even appeared to dip onto his chest, but she couldn’t quite tell.

“Luka,” she said finally, taking a half-step backwards and dropping to her knees. The pup in her arms adjusted enough to look over and whimpered. This time it sounded more shameful than fearful.

Luka huffed, shook himself, and turned completely around. He took half a dozen steps before his body rippled, the fur receding as he began to shift. Joella could only watch, transfixed, as dark fur sank into quickly pinkening flesh. The thick tail swished and shortened rapidly until it was gone and Luka’s back arched, front paws coming off the ground. With a final roll of his shoulders he straightened, standing firmly on two human legs. Completely bare.

Joella’s cheeks flushed as she found herself staring unabashedly at his naked ass. His tight, perfectly rounded, naked ass. Which was beneath his strong, taut back. She’d never realized it before, but apparently she found strong shoulders incredibly attractive. And when she was finally able to pull her eyes away from those two distracting aspects of her new view, she realized even his damned legs were sexy. Seriously, weren’t men supposed to be the ones with leg fetishes?

About Rose:

Rose Wulf is a giant romance fangirl. Hot, protective, sometimes even downright barbaric heroes and spitfire heroines are her favorites. Rose has been writing for as long as she can remember, and over the years she’s only grown fonder of it. The bonds between characters have always captivated her, and as an author those are Rose’s favorite things to play with – not always to the relief of her fictional babies!

Behind the scenes Rose is a quiet personality. She enjoys spending her non-writing time with her four year-old German Shepherd, Shadow, her mom, and her friends. Be it a fun game of Cards Against Humanity or a relaxing movie night, Rose believes everything is better with company. As for her own romance, she’s still searching for her hero (and hoping that, when she does find him, he’ll be willing to cook!).

Feature Friday ~ Bite Me by Michelle Roth #Vampire #CharacterInterview #ERom @mroth_author @EvernightPub

Hi there, everyone! I’m Michelle Roth and I’m here to introduce my latest release, Bite Me. It’s the second in my vampire paranormal series, The Transfigured Ones. Magnus Corbett, my hero, was modeled a bit after Gordon Ramsey. I wanted him to be a rough around the edges guy who didn’t necessarily have time for love. I knew, whoever I matched him with would either need to be a bad ass chick who didn’t take any crap.. or she’d need to be so sweet that she called to the softer side of him. Caroline Lundquist is both of those things.

If you’ve got any questions about the book, for me as the author, or about the series in general, feel free to use the #transfiguredones hash tag and I’ll do my best to answer!

BiteMe-EvernightPublishing-JayAheer2015-smallpreview

Magnus Corbett is the world renowned head chef for Usquebaugh, the wildly popular restaurant and whiskey bar inside the Foxwood Hotel and Casino. He’s certain that it was his status as one of the Transfigured that put him on the map. It will be bold flavors and his tireless work ethic that keep him there. And, if he has to be a little blunt to get things done? So be it.

When bar manager, Caroline Lundquist, develops a line of cocktails to breathe some life into the drink menu, she’s determined to have new gin-inspired dishes to pair with them. During their collaboration she finds herself falling for the side of Magnus that people rarely see. He’s sweet. Compassionate. Caring. As they begin to navigate the perils of a vampire-human relationship, both of their pasts crop up, threatening to destroy everything they’re working so hard to build together.

  1. If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?

Free time? What’s that? I don’t get much, but I prefer to fiddle in the kitchen or read a book. I deal with people day in and day out, so when it comes to my downtime, I can be a bit selfish.

  2. What impression do you make on people when they first meet you? How about after they’ve known you for a while?

I’ve lived a long time. If I expend any time or energy on someone, I tend to expect a lot. I try to weed out the assholes, liars, and other bad apples. People probably find that incredibly abrasive. In the end, once I feel like I can trust someone, they know that I’m loyal. My own family kind of checked out on me, so I sort of make my own.

  3. What’s your idea of a good marriage? Do you think that’ll happen in your life?

I grew up in a typical stodgy British home. I doubt my parents even liked each other, let alone loved each other. I haven’t a clue what makes a good marriage. I’d hold on to it tightly if I ever thought I found it, though.

  4. What are you most proud of about your life?

I’m a world renowned chef. I can work anywhere I choose. I did that in spite of this being a non-Transfigured dominated industry.

– And what about something more personal?

Living your dream? Making something out of nothing? How is that not personal? Did you write these bloody questions?

– Why is that so meaningful to you?

I did it completely on my own. My family kicked me when I was seventeen. I managed to finish high school and go to culinary school on my own. There was no silver spoon or college fund. I did it on my own.

  1. What are you most ashamed of in your life?

I could have been nicer to people, looking back. I don’t always have to be so abrupt. I find it easier, though. I definitely could have been nicer.

  2. If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?

Auguste Escoffier. The man was bloody brilliant. I’d love to sit down and pick his brain.

  3. Do you think you’ve turned out the way your parents expected?

I don’t think they had much hope for me. They pretty much checked out of my life when they found out I was Transfigured. Then they fought for the next decade or so about who had the faulty genetics. I don’t think they thought much about me at all. I’d love to say I didn’t think of them, but it would be a lie. I do. And it’s not kindly.

  4. What do you believe about God? What do you suppose God thinks of you?

There’s a lot of pain and suffering in the world. People get sick. People lose loved ones to horrible accidents. Meanwhile, there are some of us who live forever whether we want to or not. It doesn’t seem fair. I’m not sure a kind and loving god would do something like that.

  5. Is there anything you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t done? What would happen if you did it?

It’s been roughly forty years since I’ve been to the beach during the day. I’d love to do that but it would destroy my skin and eventually kill me. Painful.

  6. What’s the worst thing that’s happened in your life? What did you learn from it?

I’d probably say that my family is the worst thing to happen to me. What kind of awful parents withhold love from a child because of a genetic defect they can’t control? No matter whether my children are Transfigured or not, I’d love them. That’s what I learned, I guess. Tolerance.

  7. Tell me about your best friend.

Veronica is my best friend and my sous chef. She’s probably one of the few people who puts up with my crap. I trust her implicitly. She’s probably the closest thing that I have to a sister.

  8. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done to someone? Why?

Despite the fact I’m a bit of a prick sometimes, I don’t intentionally hurt people. I’ve had to fire a few wayward souls, but that’s about it. They either stole, lied, or didn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.

  9. What would you like it to say on your tombstone?

Since we pretty much just turn to a pile of ash, a tombstone seems a bit much.

  10. Describe your ideal mate.

She’d need to be strong. Someone who didn’t take any of my garbage. She’d have to be engaging. A good conversationalist. Well read. Smart. Funny. Beautiful wouldn’t hurt but it’s not a prerequisite. Not a bloody stick figure. She’d need to enjoy eating, because I would enjoy cooking for her. Taking care of her in that way.

  11. What are you most afraid of?

Failure. Being alone for eternity. The usual suspects.

  12. What’s the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?

My space. I can only handle so much social interaction, so having my personal space is hugely important. I feel like, with time alone, I recharge.

  13. What do you like best about yourself? Least?

I’m driven to succeed. I prefer to be solitary most of the time. I know that’s not exactly healthy.

  14. How do you feel about your life right now? What, if anything, would you like to change?

I’ve got a good life, for the most part. I’m happy with my career. I’d like to find someone to settle down with, though.

  15. Are you lying to yourself about something? What is it?

There’s a part of me that wishes that I wasn’t so solitary, that wants to be outgoing and friendly. I want to be social, and happy go lucky. I just don’t trust people.

  16. What trait do you most deplore in others?

People who lack common sense. Critical thinking skills are important in life, and there are people who don’t develop them or refuse to. Drives me bloody mad!

Michelle Roth is a novelist from the Great White North (Toronto, ON). When she’s not disappearing into foreign lands, or making two perfect strangers that she invented fall in love, she’s probably curled up somewhere with a glass of wine and a good book.

In her spare time she is typically hanging out with her awesome boyfriend and their two equally awesome cats. She likes taking road trips to nowhere in particular, cooking elaborate meals then making other people do the dishes, and being nerdy on the internet. Her books are currently available on Amazon, Nook, Kobo, and any other place that sells absolutely filthy romance novels.

Book Excerpt:

She stood against a light pole near the curb outside a pub I liked to frequent when I was in town, The Axe and Fiddle. I liked the music and atmosphere and, what can I say, it was a great place to pick up fine blood fills. We were in Cottage Grove, ten minutes from Eugene, so I figured she was an undergraduate at the University of Oregon. Her pouty lips accepted a cigarette effortlessly and the smoke enveloped her curves like she had just appeared out of nothing. Her low-cut plaid skirt waved slightly in the subtle breeze and I wondered what I’d find if I got the chance to sneak a peek. I had to go talk to her so I pulled out a pack of Camel’s to show her I was friendly.

“May I have a light?”

I thought I startled her, but she quickly replied, “You…you’re beautiful!” She shook as she held the lighter out for me.

“Thanks,” I snapped as if I was extremely narcissistic or didn’t care. Funny enough, both were true. I had heard that line thousands of times, and it just didn’t have the same effect as it used to when I was a budding vamp. However, since she was my first woman, I thought I’d let it slide.

She just kept staring at me, scanning me with her hazel eyes like she had to take me in a few times so she would never forget what had graced her presence. She was almost as pretty as I was, but I had a beauty secret she could never maintain; fresh unsuspecting blood. It was tragic really, knowing that her death was only hours away at most. But I hungered for wet flesh and she was the prize I craved.

“So, where’re you from?” I asked.

She continued to stare. “I’m…uh…Joana.”

I smirked. “So, you’re from Joana? Where’s that?”

“Oh, um, no! That’s my name…I’m from Portland!”

I winked at her. “You know you don’t have to shout it, darling. I have perfectly good ears. I’m from Salem, myself.”

Her gaze locked on my three carat diamond earrings dangling from flawless lobes. They were spoils from my last rendezvous. “I shouldn’t be talking to you.” She hesitated. “I’m not like you.”

“Well that’s what I was hoping for. If you were just like me, I wouldn’t be able to have the kind of fun that I was hoping for later.”

Her eyes widened. “What do you mean?”

Now, I could have taken it slow and just brushed my index finger across her rosy cheek while talking her up a bit, but I could tell she was the kind of girl that got taken advantage of quite often. She reeked of insecurity and, while I liked the hunt just as much as the next vamp, I thought she would be an easy way to test my curiosity for the same gender. Her needy gaze reminded me of all the men I had seduced. She would do whatever I wanted whether words were involved or not. Just like I craved blood, she craved acceptance and she didn’t care what the price was as long as she got what she needed; no matter how temporary.

Author Bio:
Lots of individuals like to credit their college degree or some life hero for their accomplishments (and that’s fine), but Morgan Hunter prefers to call it an overactive sex-drive coupled with an imagination that teeters on the edge of insanity. After two tours in the military and many a quarrel with the written word, decadent erotic stories slowly began to emerge. Many years later, while sitting comfortably at home, Morgan found a way to make complete strangers’ special places tingle from thousands of miles away.
