Common sense told him to stay away from the unpredictable Hud, but something deeper and profound called to Dane. He slipped on the sweatpants and moved toward Hud’s room. Gripping the knob, he listened at the door. Nothing. Dane turned the handle and slid in.

Hud lay on his back, an arm curled behind his head. One leg was bent at the knee, and the sheet lay bunched across his hips, the rest of him bare and gorgeous. The moonlight filtering in through the half-closed blinds cast him in beautiful luminescence.

“If you came in here thinking I’ll hold you in my arms and whisper ‘There, there, my
sweet baby’, you have another thing coming. Get the hell out.”

Dane couldn’t help but smile in the darkness. If they ever did become mates, it was
obvious who would be the alpha in this coupling. Dane had no problem with that, not at all.

“So you’re not into cuddling. Good to know.”

An exasperated sigh came from the direction of the bed. “What do you want, Canis?”

A loaded question. What Dane wanted? To be possessed by this Puman/Vampire shifter. In all ways.

“Since I’m a dog shifter, we don’t like to sleep alone. I had enough of that when Lucien
kept me locked up in solitary. I’ll sleep on the floor if you wish, or the foot of the bed. I can shift back into…”

Hud sat upright. “I said no shifting. I meant it,” he growled.

“Then I’ll sleep on the floor.”

“Jesus. Don’t be an ass. The bed is king-size. Stay on top of the sheet, and stay to
your own side.”

Dane’s insides thrummed with anticipation. He moved to slip off the sweats.

“Stop there. They stay on.”

“Oh, I see, you get to be naked, but I don’t?” Dane said.

“My bed, my rules.”
