Bleeding Love Interview with Beth D. Carter #Romance #Sci-Fi @BethDCarter @EvernightPub

Good morning, Beth. Thanks for stopping by! Congratulations on your newest release, Bleeding Love.

That is one extremely hot cover you have, Beth! Tell us, please, about each of the characters. What makes them tick? And, wow, do I love a tattooed man! *fans self* Lots of details about him please!

Well, Ares is one hunk of man! He’s an ex-cop who lost his entire family to the terrible gang called the Overlords. He makes it his life’s mission to hunt them all down and destroy them. This quest of vengeance makes him rough, tough and bitter. And yes, he has a lots of tattoos! When he saves Faith from their evil clutches, he only plans to use her for a while…but the heart has other plans for our anti-hero.

What was your inspiration behind this story?

Mad Max. I love futuristic dystopian stories and when I saw the trailer for the film remake my muse stood up and said “I got this.” I loved letting my imagination run wild with this world.

What was the most difficult part of writing Bleeding Love?

The tone. I originally began Bleeding Love as a stand alone, and somewhere along the way I dragged it out for a series. But it didn’t work, so I had to deconstruct it back down to a single story. It was frustrating. Faith was another problem. She is the innocent antithesis of what Ares represents and I wanted her to maintain that even when Ares takes her virginity. I struggled with how to keep her pure even when, technically, she’s not pure anymore.

Name 5 pet peeves that simply drive you insane.

My 5 writing pet peeves…

  1. Homework. As soon as my son gets home from school, it’s all about homework. The kid is in third grade and is doing algebra. Seriously, I pull my hair out every day. It’s a wonder I’m not bald.
  2. The dog. I think she’s able to read minds because the moment I’m concentrating and the words are flowing, that’s when she brings her leash, barking for a walk.
  3. Facebook. I spend too much damn time looking at all the funny memes and sexy pictures my fellow authors like to put up.
  4. My muse. I’m hard at work trying to write out a complicated and scene and she’s like “Wait! I’ve got this awesome idea for another story!” Most of the time she wakes me up at three am. Bitch.
  5. Character changes. Most of the time I can envision the beginning and ending to a story, but every once in a while the ending slips away, due to the direction of where the characters take me. When that happens I struggle a lot to maintain the plot. I’ve shelved some great stories because of this.

If we were to look in your pantry, which junk food would we find that you can’t live without? *g*

You probably won’t believe me, but I don’t eat junk food. However, hot tea is a staple for when I sit down to write. Earl Grey with a touch of cream. Sooooo good.

What are you writing next?

I just wrapped up the last book in my motorcycle club series for Totally Bound, and now have a three book shifter series to write under my super secret pen name. After them, I have a few stand alone stories outlined I’d like to complete, one dealing with the effects of endometriosis. I suffered for many years with the affliction.

Book blurbbleedinglove

In the year 2112 and civilization is in ruins.  The world has fallen from war.  People live in designated cities.

Ares has one mission: to destroy the Overlords, the men who killed his family.  To accomplish this, he is ruthless. Unforgiving.

Faith has grown up in a convent.  She’s heard what the world is like, but now she’ll experience it first hand.  Saved by Ares, he will demand her utter submission as payment.

Excerpt

At the top of the landing, he halted and turned to face her.  Faith’s heart once again pounded at the heat in his dark gaze.  He traveled his hands around to her behind, gripping her cheeks until he picked her up.  “Wrap those pretty legs around my waist.”

She did as he asked, although she didn’t know why she was so compliant with his demands.  He walked with her through the hallway to their room.  She didn’t even notice the décor as she stared into his eyes, which were no longer cold and unfeeling.  Instead, he looked at her with a sharp hunger.  A call deep inside her body answered, rocking her soul. What was happening to her?

They entered a bedroom and he kicked the door shut behind him.  He sat down on the edge of the bed with her still wrapped around him.  Ares curled his hand into her hair and pulled her head back so he could lick up her neck.

“For the next five days, this is our room,” he said in a deep voice.  “I don’t want you to leave here.  You bathe, and you make yourself pretty for me, and when I come back after my business, you and I will finish this little dance.  You understand me, Faith?”

Dazed, she nodded.

He claimed her mouth again, once again making all her thoughts disappear.  All she could do was hold on to the rush as he plundered her mouth with his tongue.  Tingles sparked through her. She was so close to something monumental, but before she could even begin to explore it, he pulled back.  Gently he stood back up, holding her like she weighed nothing, and laid her down on the mattress.  He smoothed out her hair until it fanned around her head.

“You’re mine, Faith,” he said thickly.  “I’m your protector now, which means my cock is the only cock you’ll know.  Any other man touches you, and I’ll kill him.  If someone tries to help you escape, I’ll string him up by his balls.  I may be a bastard, but I won’t hurt you unless you try to leave, touch another man, or put yourself in danger.  Then I’ll spank that gorgeous ass of yours until you can’t sit for a week.  Do you understand?”

Mutely, she nodded.

Author Bio and Social Media Link

I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers. I try to write characters who aren’t cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters IMG_0227who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. I’ve lived in France, travelled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I am a mom to an amazing little boy. I’ve walked a red carpet event and visited the USS Voyager. I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one. My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming). I hate people who don’t pick up their dog’s crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form. And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my ereader, whom I’ve named Ruby. I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web: https://twitter.com/BethDCarter
