“I’m happy for you.” It was a little fib. She frowned, not sure she liked the thoughts running through her head. This was Jay, for heaven’s sake. Her attraction to him wasn’t smart, nor did she have any say in who he dated.

Suddenly, Jay latched onto the front lapels of her robe and dragged her across the mere space separating them. Shocked, her eyes widened even further when he hauled her in against his thigh, holding her tight against his chest with a strong hand at her back. “There’s only one woman for me,” he murmured, and lowered his head.

He wasn’t going to…

Motivation and More #Writing #Romance #TopPicks

Happy Monday!

Let’s get the new week started with some Motivation …

mm
Always try and you shall succeed!!
So let’s conquer the heck out of today, and all week long!!

I’ll be starting the week by jumping back into writing my WIP, the second in the “Stirred by Love” series, which is the sequel to Stirring Up Dirty. I am enjoying the characters a lot. Such fun, and dynamic people who are surprising me. When I completed Stirring Up Dirty, the 2 characters for this book — Glory & Drew — I believed them to be more volatile and not as strong. Both are showing me that things are never what they seem.

I finished final edits late last night for GUARDING HIS ANCHOR, the 2nd in my Canadian Muscle series (sequel to Guarding Midnight). This is Frank and Charlie’s story, and while not really a challenge to write, they had moments of difficulty. A lot of history to get through. I’ve also set things up nicely at the end of Guarding His Anchor for book 3! *g*

Last week was a lovely week of surprises. Not only did a couple of books get reviews, but I received three Top Picks for those stories! I’m thrilled and love that the reviewer loved them so much.

Cover Me is a Top Pick at Night Owl Reviews!!
Cover Me and Payback’s a Bitch are both a Top Pick at The Romance Reviews !!

cm-toppickstrrtoppickI’m very blessed and ecstatic for these stories/characters to receive such love.

It looks as though another storm is heading this way tomorrow. My small area of Ontario has certainly had a lot of snow / freezing rain this season. I’ll be glad to see it end. However, it makes for some great writing! Nothing like being snowed/iced in to get some good words down.

Have a super week ahead, and I’ll see you next Monday!

Happy reading! xoxo

Exclusive Excerpt:

Jay waited for her outside a solid oak door. He looked delicious wrapped up in his own gray fluffy robe with shower sandals on his feet. His small smile had her returning it with one of her own.

“Ready?” he questioned, hand on the door.

“Yes. Thank you for all of this.”

Jay opened the door, and she stepped in. Steam rose from the electric sauna stove full of rocks in the corner of the room. It continued to pour over them, heating the room further.

“You’ve thanked me. Shelley said we have a max of thirty minutes before we’re shut down. More than that can get too uncomfortable, so let’s enjoy it while we can.” He took a seat on one of the long, wooden benches, laid his arms across the back, and breathed in deep. “Sometimes I forget what quiet time is. Life can be fast-paced for me.”

Leanne sat beside him, leaving four feet separating them, but close enough to for discussions. The constant ventilation systems were too loud to carry on a conversation if she sat too far away. “Haven’t taken a lot of vacations?” A light sheen of sweat broke out across her skin. Her skin itched and tingled with luxurious vibrations, causing her limbs to go languid and weighty. Her body relaxing and tension rolling off her, she slumped.

“Not many, no. Plus with how much traveling I do, I count a few of those trips as vacations once in a while.”

“Travel to different locations must be amazing,” She shoved the neckline of her robe back, exposing her shoulders, hoping to cool her heated body. The steam and heat filled her lungs and sweat rolled over her, but she’d never felt better. “Where to next?” she murmured, comfortable and warm. Her eyes drifted shut, but she fought off the dreaminess in her head and tried to pay attention.

Jay shifted, pulling his arms from the sleeves. Leanne laid her head back on the wall behind her, drifting.

“Probably no traveling for a while. The photographer I’ve been working with has opened his own location not too far from my studio apartment. We work exclusively with one another now, so it made sense to make things easier for both of us.”

“What a great idea. You’re doing book covers only now?” Leanne angled her head to look over at him and gulped. He’d shoved his robe to his waist, leaving him bare chested. Holy hell was he fine. A chiseled god among mere mortal men. Muscles expanded from every angle and bulge in the right places. Her mouth watered. What she wouldn’t give to burrow against his tight chest and be surrounded by his protection and hardness. She had to wonder how much time he spent in the gym.

He brushed perspiration from his forehead. “Ninety percent of the time now, yeah, I’ll mainly do covers. I never realized how big an industry modeling for novels had. I’m blessed to be on many of them. And will continue doing them as the clientele grows. But I won’t travel internationally.”

And Leanne knew most of them. Her heart skipped a beat thinking of the paperback books on the book stand in her bedroom. Five full shelves of books with him on them. Many were authors she hadn’t read but had started a collection of those he’d modeled for. It had started with four or five on her shelf, but the more she found at the bookstore, the more a palpable need filled her to have them. And she couldn’t resist taking any of them home. If he ever found out … well, she’d try to explain she wasn’t an obsessed stalker.

“Do you miss doing the other shoots? Magazines or the commercials you were doing?” Mouth dry from the heat and Jay’s physique, she reached over to the cooler at the side and grabbed a water bottle, and passed one to him.

“No, not much.” He accepted her offering, twisted the cap off, then knocked back a greedy amount. “I’ll be glad to be home more. See old friends often, get involved with community stuff.”

Leanne swallowed a mouthful of water, then smiled at him. “Perhaps you’ll find Mrs. Right and live happily ever after. And get out of that bachelor studio apartment.” She grinned.

Jay’s gaze cut to her, staring her down. A jolt of excitement slithered along her spine. His eyes nearly black, a deep abyss stared at her. Her heart raced. He never gazed at her with such intensity.

“What makes you think I haven’t found her yet?” he questioned, his tone grave and almost harsh.

“Oh, well … uh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you had. Why didn’t you bring her to the wedding? Does Beau know her?” Leanne didn’t know what was worse: the thought of him with a woman, or the power in his eyes as he stared at her. “I’m happy for you.” It was a little fib. She frowned, not sure she liked the thoughts running through her head. This was Jay, for heaven’s sake. Her attraction to him wasn’t smart, nor did she have any say in who he dated.

He wasn’t going to…

#MidWeekTease ~ “She wanted to trust him.” #MWTease #ComingSoon #Romance

MWTease15

Happy Wednesday Friends! I hope everyone is doing great!

Special thanks to Angelica Dawson for rallying authors together to share teases every week.

~~~~~~~
This week’s tease comes from my upcoming Contemporary May/December Erotic Romance, Cover Me.
Here, Leanne has just shared a nice evening with her son’s best friend, Jay, who makes her wish she was at least twenty years younger…
(c)KaceyHammell, 2016
He led her through the door from the bar to hotel lobby. The quiet as they strode through was peaceful. A few guests and resort staff milled around. Leanne loved the cozy atmosphere of the low lighting, large plush couches and chairs, and the smiles on the staff’s faces.
It was the perfect place to hold a wedding.cover-me-evernightpublishing-nov-2016-3drender
“I hope the men you danced with told you how gorgeous you are. That dress is killer on you,” Jay murmured next to her ear.
Leanne’s breath hitched at his words. Stunned, she stared at him, even as he pressed the button for the elevator.
“Are you coming? What floor is your room?”
His voice pulled her from her stupor, and he led her into the elevator, blushing at not realizing he’d even moved. “Oh, thank you. That’s sweet of you. But no, no one mentioned my dress. Sixth floor.”
“They’re idiots,” he complained as he pushed the button for six. “You’re amazing in it.”
Her body heated. Jay’s gaze wandered over her, slow and easy, and lighting with appreciation and—no, she had to be imagining the interest sparking in his eyes. There was no way.
“Don’t be so stunned, Leanne. You’re better looking than any other women.”
She laughed aloud. “You need to get out more and meet new ladies. I’m an old, divorced woman who will retire in the next decade.”
The elevator dinged for her floor, and she exited. After rifling in the side pocket inside her clutch, she withdrew her hotel keycard.
“You’re more than that, Leanne. So much more.” He leaned against the wall, his eyes serious.
“Thank you again. You’ve been so gracious tonight. I can’t thank you enough for it.”
He glanced at her door. “Six-ten. My room is one floor up, right above you. And you’re making tonight sound like a pity date. It wasn’t, I assure you. I’ve loved spending time with you. A lot.”
Hands unsteady, she slid the card into the door access slot. She withdrew it again when the green light blinked, then held the door open with her foot.
“Are we still on for breakfast in the garden tomorrow morning?” he questioned.
It took Leanne a moment to remember mentioning it earlier. As much as she wanted to put distance between them, she equally didn’t want to. “Sounds wonderful. Yes.” She turned and propped the door open with her back. “Meet you in the lobby around eight?”
“I’ll be there.” He smiled, then leaned forward. Leanne sucked in a harsh breath and closed her eyes when his lips brushed a kiss on her cheek. “Good night, gorgeous.” Jay winked, turned, and sauntered down the hall.
Leanne’s heart thudded as she breathed again. The brief smell of men’s cologne and beer filled her senses. Sexy. Attractive. Potent.
Jay.
Damn.
A long sigh escaped her as she stepped into her room and flipped the top lock when the door shut. She toed off her offensive pumps and tossed the clutch onto the side table. Confusion and uncertainty swirled through her. Frowning, she entered the bathroom, pulled on the side zipper, then slid out of her dress.
Jay had to be a practiced and skilled player. He was toying with her, nothing more. She hung up her dress, placed it on the hook behind the door, then stood in front of the full-length mirror.
Men Jay’s age didn’t flirt with her. No man had shown interest in a long time, even before her marriage had fallen apart. Viktor had stopped going to bed with her, usually working late most nights.
She checked her reflection. Red stretch marks marred her skin, but she savored the memories of carrying Beau, of experiencing the impeccable joy of being a mother. Her breasts had suffered little over the years. They didn’t sag to her waist, and it pleased her that lifting weights helped them stay high and firm. Her daily routine involved taking care of herself with good food and an exercise regimen she hated but maintained.
Her stomach was plump but far from imperfect. Her girlfriends commented often that she had the body of a thirty-year-old, not someone who was fifty-three. Biased, since they were her BFFs, but they were still honest with her and showered her with compliments to build her confidence.
But tonight, Jay had her self-esteem standing a hundred feet tall, even if he were only lying.
Her friends were fabulous, but coming from a male perspective meant so much more. She wanted to trust him. For tonight, she did.
It had been too damn long since she felt so present, so alive and visible. Viktor had taken so much of her when he’d walked out the door.
Tonight, Jay had given her a bit of that back.
“Sounds as though you’re enjoying yourself.”
Leanne jumped at the voice behind her and turned.
Pleased with the distraction, she welcomed Jay’s interruption to her thoughts. He always filled her heart with warmth. From the time she’d met him as a young teenager to the promising adult he’d become, he’d held a special place in her heart.
“Jay! I’m glad you’re still here. Beau told me you were staying on a few more days. Good for you. You deserve time off.”
“Hi, Leanne. Thanks. It’s great to see you. Did you enjoy today?”
“I did. It was a gorgeous ceremony. I may just see if I can have breakfast in that garden tomorrow. It’s so stunning out there.”
“A great idea. Can I join you?”
The hopeful expression on his face was so cute and did her in. She was unable to refuse him. She’d always loved having him around the house with Beau, and she liked the idea of catching up with him. They hadn’t seen one another in the last six months. At least not as far as he knew.
Don’t think about that now.
She cleared her throat, nervous. “Yes, you can.” Pushing away the unwanted thoughts, she smiled. Still wired from the day’s excitement, she had energy to burn and didn’t want the evening to end. Spending it with a good friend sounded great.
“Better yet, join me for a drink in the bar? They might still serve food, too. I’m getting hungry.”
Jay held out his arm for her to take his elbow and chuckled. “You never miss an opportunity to eat, do you?”
She laughed and gave his shoulder a light slap. “Don’t tease. I have always had a healthy appetite. At least what I eat doesn’t stay attached to my hips. I may not have my twenty-year-old figure anymore, but working out three times a week helps.”
“You look gorgeous. And sexier than ever.”
Leanne glanced over at him, the husky baritone in his voice surprising her. She’d never heard him sound so masculine.
Goosebumps coated her arms. The hungry look in his brown eyes had her sucking in a deep breath. With the images she’d seen of him, on book covers, magazines, and billboards in town, she saw him in a whole new way.
A sexy, adult male way that she shouldn’t entertain.
Not at her age.
Damn. When did he get so sexy?
Shame on you, woman. You’re old enough to be his mother.
Her inner voice spoke the truth. Her mind drifted to the photo she’d seen of him the other day—clad only in Calvin Klein underwear.
She remembered the way her untouched-for-months body had reacted. Nipples tightening, breathless and chest heaving, tingles of excitement erupted between her thighs. She’d jumped from her bed that night as though it had caught fire and spent the next few hours cleaning her house from room to room to occupy her mind and erase her embarrassment. She had done whatever it took to keep from eyeing Jay in a lustful way.
And now, here she was again, her thoughts drifting in ways that a woman her age shouldn’t entertain. She was such a fool. As if a man twenty years her junior could see her as sexy or desirable.
Cripes, she wasn’t even able to keep her husband—her same age—interested in her. He’d dumped her sorry ass for a blonde bimbo in her early twenties. There’d be no fathomable way she could hold on to a man like Jay.
“You shouldn’t doubt how stunning you are, Leanne.”
